Does anyone else find this strange?
A friend had a baby boy 5 months ago and named him Harrison. Yesterday we were informed that his name is now Heston....
Apparently they felt that there were too many Harrisons and that they didn't really like the name so they decided to change it. They knew they were having a boy from 20 weeks so I sort of find it odd that they changed it after 5 months. What do you think?
Yeah I think that's a bit wierd myself too. Not something I would do but better for them to change it now than when he's 4!

That is a bit odd! But if they're happy to do that, I suppose it's their right...
Poor kid will have to always fill out those "have you ever been known by another name?" bits on official forms though. Bit of a hassle :dunno:

with our son we choose Jett but got sick of everyone saying they knew a Jett so we added an H
and DH and i are at logger heads over this bubs name and come to an agreement if i go earlier and have a c-section i get Hudson if i go full term naturally he gets Hunter so currently he just call him Bubs
jhetts been calling him hudson so it will most likely stick
Yes I find it odd, but an old friend of mine did something similar.
She knew she was having a boy and they picked his name. When they bought him home and introduced him, random people passed the comment that it sounded like a porn star name. He was 2months old when they changed it. It was a totally different name though.
I don't know, I kinda get it. It really might not have suited him and his parents didn't feel comfortable with it. I named my DD her backup name and sometimes regret it, but not to the point that I can be bothered changing it. Like someone else said, better now than later.

A little odd although not surprising....is Heston his middle name? Perhaps they are Heston Blumenthal fans :)
I work at Medicare...you would be surprised the number of babies added to their parents Medicare card with just Baby Smith due to the fact the parents just couldn't make up their mind.
Bit odd but each to there own, Harrison is a great name don't know why they would want to change it!!!
I had friends do this recently, don't think it is that odd.. sometimes you think a baby will grow into their name but they just don't. It is a simple and inexpensive process to change the name in the first 12mo.
I dunno, I think it's ok. Bit confusing for everyone else maybe but I guess you'd adjust.

Ds3 was registered as River Stellan James. But I always called him Stellan (my first choice but DH disagreed). At 3mths we just decided he was Stellan end of story and applied to change his first and middle names around. Easier to do that than have him constantly have to be River for legal reasons but Stellan in every day life.
I reckon its a case of maybe they had doubts with the name to begin with, and once bub was around awhile it just didnt feel comfortable to them so it would take some deep serious consideration to go to those measures of giving bub a 'new' name IYKIWM !!
at the same time yeh i would find it to be odd as you would think they got use to calling the baby Harrison after 5mths unless they were using more a nickname during this time ??
I know someone who changed their child's name at 14months because they didn't like how it sounded when people said it. I guess you don't know how a name will turn out until it's been used. Easier now then later I guess.
hmmm that is a bit weird, but i guess better than a few years down the track, when the kid is old enough to remember or recognise the name change?....:dunno:
They did pay to change it as they had already registered it and yes they are Heston Blumenthal fans :lol: It wasn't a middle name or anything - a complete name change.
They are moving to Sydney so they thought that the name change was best done now to coincide with the move so that will probably help.
Wonder how you feel about the baby gifts that have the first name on them - like precious birth cards, etc.
