Is baby unsettled because im drinking milk....

I havnt drank much milk since having DD2 3 weeks ago. she has been an awesome sleeper and rarly unsettled etc. a few projecile vomits, but i guess thats par for the course.
i had a big glass of milk the other morning and she was unsettled all day. i hadnt thought that the milk might of caused it till a friend who came round to visit that day asked if id eaten anything out of the ordinary. she had a rock hard tummy, lots of burps, crying, bringing her legs up etc.
then last night before bed i had a big hot chocolate with stacks of milk...mostly milk! i didnt think about it, then last night she was awake from 2am till 5am clearly im pain, not happy, tummy hard, so many burps etc, not normal for her atall.

So, my questions are.....is that what happens if baby has some sort of intolerance? is it like the same rules if you were to drink alcohol, so the milk is in your breast milk for a set number of hours and if you were to 'pump and dump' it wouldnt be there for the next feed....not that im saying i was to drink milk etc, just curious.
can anyone give me some more info on this sort of thing, or is there a thread dedicated to it somewhere that i cant find??

It happens to us. All of my kids have done the same thing and when it came to them having cows milk they have a slight intolerance whenthey're little. DD is now 4 and can eat dairy without any issues though. But I don't have too much dairy, chocolate, cruciferous veggies (veggies which cause wind, like cabbage, broccoli...), spicy foods. Other wise we are awake for ages through the night with a wery grizzly babe who farts like no tomorrow!! Not until bubs is about 6ish months and their tums can handle it better.

DD has a lot of wind if I have to much dairy. I have cut most of it out and when I need to use it, I use the A2 milk which has been enough to help with her. I can't eat any chocolate though, that effects her badly. Just keep in mind if you cut it out that dairy can take 2 weeks to get out of your system and 2 weeks to get out of hers so it can take some time for it to settle down though if she is seriously intolerant or allergic you may see great results straight away.

thanks, il have to look into it a bit more. but il get some a2 milk and cut down on dairy for a bit but if its already in our systems then i guess i wont know if its just baby being a baby or if its dairy. never noticed this with dd1 but il see. thanks for the replies.

With DS, I had to replace my milk for breakfast with soy milk up until midday, then u was ok to drink milk. Otherwise he'd had terrible colic in the evening and scream for hours.

It could just as easily be the caffeine or chocolate as the milk - you may have to experiment a bit!

Was this a one off or a pattern you've noticed? It could be a coincidence that your glass of milk coincided with a fussy period.
If there was a serious alergy and she couldnt' take the milk proteins at all then I think she'd have pretty severe symptoms including little/no weight gain. It is posslbe to have a reaction to the milk though - sometimes mums just need to reduce the amount they have of certain things and it's ok. It does take weeks to get it all out of your systems, though, yeah.
Just by the by, pumping and dumping doesn't remove the alcohol from your milk - it naturally dissipates over time, as it does in your bloodstream (I think on average it's about 2 hours per standard drink, or something like that).

i think il just remember not to drink a giant mug of hot milk before bed in future, its happened twice now and both times she has been really bad after, but fine within 12 hours, so clearly not a mojor problem or she would have on going problems. maybe just doesnt sit well in her little tummy.

Dont drink anything with caffeine in...and il pretend you didnt say chocolate...thats just too much! :)

There is caffeine (though not a heap) in chocolate - so if you have a caffeine-sensitive baby then it may be a problem......
