Is this a symptom of wind - or reflux?

DS has diagnosed reflux and is on Losec (and thanks to all of you who replied to my other thread on how to get the medicine down - DS is not spitting it out anymore). He's been on Losec for over a week and the extreme pain seems to be gone, however he's still arching his back throughout the day (fairly frequently). I assumed this was related to his reflux and was wondering when it would stop - but I was skimming some other threads here and am now wondering if this is wind (a completely seperate problem???) - especially when I read about coloring around some babies mouth when they have wind as I swear that I have seen the area between DS's nose and mouth look purple-ish and it was suggested that this is another sign of wind.

DS' burps have become very hard to get out of him - it takes a while - and he's also fairly gassy.

my little guy has reflux as well as being really gassy - making him pretty hard to feed. We give him 0.2mls of infacol before every feed and it means he only does one burp, or maybe two, fairly easily after he feeds. Infacol helps any air (called gas in babies for some reason) form together, which means they come up easier than if there are lots of smaller bubbles. My doctor, paed and pharmacist said that I can use losec (he's on half a tablet twice a day) along with infacol without any problems. The arching shouldn't be the reflux if he's on losec as he won't be in pain anymore from the acid he's burping/chucking up anymore. They get more efficient at burping themselves as they get older, as well as being less gassy. You can get infacol from the chemist or coles baby section for about $10 but use as directed but it's worth a try as gas can certainly cause them pain until they work out how to get it out themselves. My little girl does the "prawn dance" when she has wind. And it's really hard to get it out too - she is now too grown up and too cool for being over my shoulder. Tummy time helps, and a good long break (like 30 minutes) between sides at a feed. Raising her arms above her head works to get it up too, or supported standing in my lap. Anything upright, and taking her mind off it, like singing or chatting or laughing, seems to work also.

Sounds like wind hun. DS had it pretty bad since birth until he was about 6 months old. He used to arch his back and CRY CRY CRY. I gave him infacol and it solved the problem. Also the hands above the head too and tummy time helped heaps as well. Hope it improves for your DS soon :hug:

I'm so glad I logged back on - I didn't get any notices that there were replies! I have infacol and will try that - I will also put him on his tummy and do some of the other things suggested. He is just so uncomfortable and so not himself and I feel totally useless (and I can only hold him and walk around for so long without needing a break).

Audax - what's the prawn dance? I'm trying to imagine and not getting it :)
