Ds1 seems to have picked up a bug. He woke up this morning a bit whingy and had some breakfast and milk and we went to get in the car to go to child care and he threw up all through the car. He was drinking but not holding anything down and now he is lying on the lounge room floor watching tv and refusing all drinks. He hasnt really drunk anything since 7pm yesterday and I'm getting worried about dehydration. Any advice? At what stage should I take him to hospital?
Will he suck on an icy poll? I'd give it to 7pm tonight. If he hasn't had any form of fluids then I'd take him because they're not going to do anything different other than put an IV in or a tube down his nose, both of which are quite traumatic.
No icey poles in the house but dh is on his way home so will get him to pick some up on the way home. He has fallen asleep on the lounge room floor which for him is very strange. Just noticed a tear on his face so pretty sure he isn't dehydrated yet.
I was gonna say try the Hydralyte icy poles. It's usually the first thing the hospital will give.

try just giving him sips of water every now and then. when kiddies come into us at work we start them on a trial of fluids and get the parents to give 1.5mls per kg every 10 mins. hydralite is fantastic and i highly recommend you get your DH to grab some from the chemist on his way home. fingers crossed your lo feels better soon xx
I tried to give him some watered down juice but he refused to drink it. Will keep trying when he wakes up. Poor little man. He is usually a little power house so to see him like this is very strange.

When my LO was ill with a tummy bug the other week, the doctor recommended giving him paedalyte (same as hydralite but for bubs) and giving him 1ml every ten minutes.
I hope he's gets better soon..... poor wee thing, it just breaks your heart when they are unwell.
If he doesn't take some fluid soon I would definitely head to the hospital - my DD refused fluids other than a little bm when she got a bug a couple of months ago and ended up on a drip for 3 days.
Thanks everyone. DS has come good. Had a long sleep on the lounge room floor and woke up at 2:30 asking for food and drink. Hasn't stopped drinking and eating since and is up to all sorts of mischief again. Just hoping that the rest of us don't get it! The icey poles have been working a treat and he even tolerated the hydrolyte iced lollies.
