Posterior tongue tie??

So in the continuance of our struggling journey I went and saw another LC today. She is fairly sure that dd (8 weeks) has a posterior tongue tie which is causing the clicking and poor attachment and ineffective sucking etc etc, not to mention the damage to my poor nipples.

Anyway so I am looking for some success stories with posterior tongue tie. The LC says she definetly needs further assessment by an oral surgeon. Only problem being its a 5hr drive and then the oral surgeon may decide to snip it or may decide not to. So it's a very big trip if nothing happens.

We are also going to be doing some bowen therapy treatments and speech pathologist in the meantime to see if it helps.

I am exhausted... and right at this moment I am NOT coping. I am so over it. DD has to feed constantly because her suck is so bad she isn't getting enough otherwise. I documented it and yesterday I fed her 15 times for 20-30mins each time and only 2 of those were overnight. My boys are neglected, the house is a pit and my nipples hurt like hell.

LC suggested expressing after each feed and topping her up which A) sounds like a lot of work and B) well I try to give her expressed milk at least once a day (to give my nipples a break). Generally before bed so I can get some sleep and she has just as much trouble with a bottle. I have tried so many teats etc and she chokes on every one of them. So most of the time she won't even accept a bottle.

Anyway please, I need positive posterior tongue tie stories. Tell me this is going to get better. Give me so hints on how to help her.

We went through 3 months of agony trying to get ds to feed properly, I was in tears most feeds it was so painful. He was almost 3 months when it was finally discovered he had a posterior tongue tie and it was snipped that day. That first feed was painless! From then on I started to heal, ds was happy and gaining weight, we were all happy :dance:

I found that expressing was still painful and didn't allow me to heal, so I did give him some formula, to help keep me sane more than anything. Luckily he was more than happy to have a bottle, and had no trouble switching between. Sorry I can't you with tips on that, we were just lucky I guess.

Good luck with your decision, having a 5 hour drive doesn't make it easy at all! There were times when I couldn't see how things were going to get better, I really couldn't. But they did, and they will for you too x

Which state are you in?
Both my boys had them, both had them snipped, one bf til 6mthe the other til 11mth

We're in Qld but Western Qld, tiny little town with not a lot of resources. We're 4 hrs from the next major town, 6 hrs from Brisbane. We'll be flat out getting anyone to snip it here.

I'm a little worried that by the time we get a referral, get an appt, travel down in hope that this dude will snip it, it'll be weeks before anything happens.

She drank ok from an avent newborn teat today so I got a proper feed into her that way this afternoon which gave me a break from the hourly feeds she normally has to do to get enough.
