Floradix for baby?
Is there any other BB mums who didn't give their baby the fortified rice cereals? I read in a couple of different articles that fortified iron prevents the good iron from breast milk being absorbed well so I don't want to give the fortifed iron to bubs. Plus I made up all his food from biodynamic brown rice and organic oats and fruits and veg. But I want to make sure he's getting enough iron. I've been told by several people that they gave their bub Floradix in really small dosage. Has anyone here done that? I know it has honey in it but what is the reall problem with that? I know you can't give bubs honey but surely the amount in a product like that is super small. They do sell a product called Floradix magnesium liquid which also has honey in it and they have a recommended dosage for 0-6 months and it says it's OK for babies. Which brings me to my next question is it the Floradix that is the 'iron' part or is that the brand name? I know there is a Floradix Iron, Floradix Calcium and Magnesium, Floradix Iron + Herbs so maybe the Floradix Iron ( & the + herbs one) are the only ones that actually have Iron suppliements and the others are just the brand name Floradix and the magnesium one I am looking at is really just a magnesium supplement.
Sorry if I've confused anyone  lol

Have a look at the ingredients or the small print, I think as a supplement they have to list what is in there. I would be very very careful giving an iron product like that to a baby or small child unless it is specifically designed for children. Children can actually overdose on iron. That is why it is reccommended to keep them out of reach of children. You can get children's supplements, I have seen them, just can't remember where.

The Floradix magnesium liquid that I am looking at is for everyone including babies.
There are iron products available for babies. Floradrops is one of them but very expensive which is one of the reasons I have asked about the Floradix range.

If it says it can be given to children then go for it. I only gave DD2 rice cereal few a couple of weeks but stopped cause it caused the worst farts, but she has meat now as I just whizz up our meal to give to her plus she is still breastfed. FWIW as long as he is eating well and getting breastfed bub probably doesn't need to supplements.

I use Floradix Floravital for my DS and you are right that the iron in this form is most readily absorbed compared to any iron fortified food. On my bottle is says it is fine for babies, but I would still give the company a call just to check which of their (many) products would be most appropriate for your baby and if the honey would be an issue. It is a really reputable brand, so I imagine it would be fine.

Hi, Cherished,
Has some-one suggested your little one might be iron deficient? Babies lay down stores of iron while you are pregnant. Breastmilk is low in iron, but what there is is fully absorbed by the body. By 6mnths babies are starting to eat family foods in addition to breastmilk, and meat can be one of these foods anytime soon (when he's mastered the art of eating)
