P&T ok to take on flights?

I'm flying to Tassie on Tuesday & had planned to take my small valco umbrella stroller. But I'm re-thinking it as my toddler sometimes likes to hop in the doubles of my P&T sports and it would be just so much more versatile to have the bigger stroller & doubles kit with me. I've been trawling the websites (flying with Virgin Blue one way & Jetstar the return) to see if there is an upper size/weight limit for strollers... can't see one. Has anyone else put a P&T sports (or similar size) stroller on a flight? (I plan to stick the doubles seat into one of our cases so it would be the stroller only).

We took our strider (they are pretty bulky) to tassie a few years ago with no problems :D

I phoned Virgin a couple of weeks ago and each child has an automatic over-weight allowance, for a pram / carseat / portacot. I've taken a P&T E3 and also a carseat when flying - the pram was when Pip was <2 and on my lap, so not even with a seat for him.

You can book anything that your child needs for free on most flights, actually virgin and jetstar definately do it from experience! You can book child seats, strollers, prams, port-a-cots, childrens luggage and all. They will take it, I've flown with both carriers you're going with and taken on a lot of stuff for the girls and they havent worried about it. Also you ask if you can keep the pram until the last minute, which is normally a couple of minutes before you board. Whcih is also handy.

yeah I took stuff like that last time (car seat etc). I just thought I'd seen something somewhere (!?!?) about there being a weight limit on the strollers (like 10kg or something?)... ah well looks fine! Thanks for the replies ladies. P&T it is!

I flew with both Jetstar and Virgin to Darwin in Jan/Feb this year, and took a big 3 wheeler pram with a toddler seat for that reason.. No issues at all.

Both websites say that they will carry a pram, port a cot, car seat, and other baby items free for infants with no weight mentioned.

I've flown Virgin half a dozen times with our P&T Vibe (plus 2 car seats AND a portacot) - no drama.
Depending on which airport you are at, some will let you take the pram to the gate, and they'll load it on about 20 mins before the flight is due to depart. At other airports you have to check it through.

We have to fly from regional WA to Sydney in June my only worry is what happens if they damage the pram or something? We had a issue with Virgin a couple years back where we couldn't even contact them regarding them smashing a parcel we had, it first got lost then when we got it we had to throw every that was packed with it out too.

I took my babyjogger to Singapore from Perth with no trouble. Just put it together nice and tight. They are not careful!!

One website suggested to put it in a big plastic bag - has anyone done that? I was just going to tighten all the straps down, that sort of thing.

I'd suggest a bag, definitely. We have taken our BJ City Elite on 8 flights so far and it hasn't been an issue but we have got a proper BJ travel bag for it. Friends of ours borrowed our cheap stroller for a holiday and had to replace the padding on both handles as they'd been damaged by the airline.

We have just returned from Singapore and one of our good suitcases was slightly damaged and that isn't the first time - one of the wheels was broken on our last holiday in September. I just don't trust the airlines when it comes to 'handling with care' :lol: It would be most frustrating to arrive at your destination only to find your pram is damaged. Not a great start to your holiday

Belfie - we just came back from Melb today and I noticed that just inside of T2 near the International Check in counters there is a shrink wrap service for bulky items - it costs $10 but for things like expensive prams etc, it might be money well spent. A gf of my had her Strider trashed by the virgin luggage handlers due to poor handling (eg dragging it along concrete and throwing it about while loading etc)

Yep thats my worry to the point we are thinking about buying a cheapie stroller or something just for the holiday, i would hate to think what my P&T vibe might look like after the flight. We were at Melbourne airport near the windows where you can see them with the conveyor belt loading bags etc and one handlers was throwing luggage up to high on the conveyor that you could just see what was going to happen and the suitcase kept falling off and he kept doing the same thing in plain view of passengers. Even most suitcase aren't cheap and you don't need to be having to replace them everytime you travel.
