anyone help me with what i can expect? i guess we were fairly 'lucky' (and i use that word oh so lightly) in that when J was born, it was obvious what had happened with the cord, but still, i know they sent off my placenta for testing, etc.....so what's the general gist of what might happen? im slightly nervous, and i know i probably shouldn't be, but still.....thanks ladies :)
Was there a post mortem? I had emailed a bunch of questions in advance, from 'was it anything I ate' to 'could it have been radiation from the subterminal at work'. I went in prepared to blame myself, as I already was.
I think he'll check that you're healing ok. If he has the final report he should go through that. They normally take 6-8wks to be done. I guess you want to know what happened, could anything have been done to prevent it, what's his recommendation for the next pregnancy and birth? If you havent, I'd ask him for a referral to a shrink who specialises in grief.
Also assess if you like the way he's handling it. If his manner towards you is any different.

be prepaired for it to be something other than they expected, by the sounds of things it wont be, but it shook me to my core when we found out what really happened with Jack, it was like it had just happened all over again. other than that they'll probably just ask how you're doing and how your body is going, nothing major.

hey guys, thank you. tashy, no, we didn't do a post-mortem. cause he was born with the cord loop-the-loop around his ankles, it was obvious what had happened. they had sent the placenta away for testing, and he said it had something, can't remember what, but that basically showed he had been in distress before he died. that was hard to hear, i mean it seems obvious, of course he would have been, but to hear my little son was in distress.....i nearly broke down, my poor little guy :(
he said for the future though, if we decide to have another baby, basically cause of my c/s with DS, they won't induce me, so unless i want to wait and go into labour naturally (which i don't know if i could handle it, mentally) he said the safest option would be to have an elective c/s. i think im okay with that, but we'll wait and see when and if i get pregnant again.
other than that....he checked my belly, everything seemed fine....oh, question though, he sent me for some 'standard' blood tests, which is all to do with clotting and stuff for me (which has nothing to do with why he died, and i also have no family history whatsover)) but it turns out these tests aren't covered by medicare and is going to cost me over $300 to get these done....i just don't have that kind of money!! just wondering if you were sent for these tests, and if they are necessary? i will probably call him tomorrow and ask about them, but yeh.....don't really want to get these done :dunno:
Oh babe. Big :hug: That must have been so hard to hear. I'm sure it wouldnt have lasted long, but so hard to hear. I still shy away from thinking about whether or not DS felt anything whilst they were trying to resus him.
I think in your position, I'd probably schedule the c/s the day after the BFP if that makes you feel better, but cross that bridge when you get there.
I had similar tests after our mmc. Yeah, they were expensive. Is it something you can save for? You dont need to get them straight away. Our results came back all normal, so seemed a waste of money. Maybe talk to your OB. He's probably just covering bases.
Each OB is different, my only advice would be if your not happy with this one keep looking till you find on you like. you have been through much in the past and I think being 100% confident and happy with your care provider, no matter what birth you chose, is really important. I hope everything goes well and you get your questions answered.
no don't have a problem with him at all. on the contrary, i think he's been great, and i really support his advice. it cost $160 today, and it was worth it, i was with him for about 25 minutes, he answered everything i asked him, and was willing to sit and talk to me. pity he doesn't go through the public system, otherwise i'd got straight back to him, but i just can't afford him :(:
Is there anyway he can put you on a payment plan or could family and friends help out at all?

yeh i know i agree.....he is really good. it will be all right to begin with, he said he would see me monthly and fortnightly up until 36 weeks and then weekly until i have baby (which if i have c/s at 38 weeks will only be 2 weeks...) i guess i could ask my mum to help out Lol. i'll see how i go, but thats an option.:
Can you check with your ob about the cost? I recently had all those blood tests involving blooding clotting due to a miscarriage at 15 weeks and when I went she warned me it was expensive (as you said around $300) but then said "oh it doesn't matter your dr has checked the bulkbill box - so we were bulk billed for all the blood tests (15 vials!!!). Maybe if you explain it's financially difficult he may put it through bulkbilled.
hmmmm sweetpea, not sure if that's an option? i talked to him last night and he said he would put something on my form to do with family history.....:shhh: just so i didn't have to pay!! nawww what a nice doc, just hope we don't get in trouble. but yeh, he basically said that he really wants me to get the tests, they're really important, so whatever he says, and he says he'd make it so that i don't have to pay.
also, talked to my mum last night and she said if we were to have another baby and i wanted to go to him for prenatal care, she would help me pay for him. naaaawwww i love my mum :D
