does your little one benefit from two days one after the other (e.g. wednesdays and thursdays) in day care or do you have to break the days up, say tuesdays and thursdays because of tiredness etc?

Hi there, I have my little one in 3 consecutive days. I'm not sure of your situation, but I work those 3 days. But the main reason I picked 3 consecutive days was because of advice from our nursery about it being easier to help them adjust if they are there on back to back days. I could have split the days up as my work are flexible about it. She does get tired by the end of the 3 days, but she loves being there. In fact on Friday night she almost didn't want to leave as she had such a great day!
Not sure if that helps.

My son has been in daycare for a long time (on and off) and when we couldn't afford full time we decided to break it up, Mon, Wed & Fri.
I break it up, he goes Tues & Thurs. Seems to work well for us :)
I break it up. I was told that it's better to break it up rather than have them back to back, otherwise it's a long wait for them before going again and it may upset them.
My two oldest go on wed and fri.
Our days are broken, mainly due to what was available. I do find it handy, especially when someone is sick. If they get sent home on the first day, they cannot go back the next day, so they miss both days. Which is a pain if you are working.
I always tried to not have a break - that way they get used to it, esp if they are young and trying to adjust (then it isnt 'new' everytime they go.) looks like you will get both opinions, prob depends on your bub and you... good luck
I break it up, they get too tired and cranky if it's consecutive days. Last time I did it dd1 was too tired to go to her dance lesson.
thanks so much for your replies everyone. i'm trying tuesday and thursday this week :-) see how she goes! she normally goes tuesdays and wednesdays
We do Tuesdays and Fridays. I honestly think that two consecutive days would be too much for him, and then too much of a break in between. We've missed a few days recently due to illness, but he's settling in much better now that it's two days per week - there's not such a long break in between.

We were also advised that its better for them to adjust to the routine of childcare by having them in back to back days :dunno:...but in our case we did/will continue to do Thursday and Friday because it was/is the days I need to because of work. It was exhausting for DS1 (still waiting for a position for DS2) at the beginning (he's been going since 10.5months - but its what had to be done in our case, but since DS1 is getting older (he is almost 3) I don't think it makes too much difference (he needs to burn off all that energy anyway :o)...he is just as energetic on the Saturday and we even get up early to go swimming at 8am!
I'm sure you'll work out what suits you and your family. Its good you are able to switch the days so you can see how she goes. Good luck with it all.
We do Monday, Wednesday & Friday - I work those days and it suits us really well to have the break in between.
We used to do Mon, Wed, Thurs and we have at one point done 4 days a week. Our current arrangement is the best so far, I know I love the break in between, a chance to catch my breath & I think it suits Pie really well too - she's tired after a day at daycare.
With regards to them getting used to it, I was told going twice a week is best but there was no reference to when those days should be, just that once a week left too much of a gap between visits.
thanks again for your responses, been so helpful to know what everyone does! DD went tuesday and was home with me yesterday (wednesday) and slept for 3.5hours! i couldn't believe it. she was a little naughty yesterday morning so yes, perhaps it's tiredness??? she woke up rather happy after her big day time sleep and then went to bed at normal at 7pm. slept through and was very happy to go to day care today again. she waved me goodbye this morning! i was shocked as last week she cried when i left her. so this week, the tuesday and thursday have worked a treat, but we'll just monitor it and see how she goes. she eventually will need back to back days, especially when she attends prep! thanks again x
