in our Lab class, we have to bathe each other. Apparently we have to wear shorts and t-shirts, and bring towels and toothbrushes, etc, to allow others to attend to our hygiene. I know this is a mega important part of our learning, but seriously I am not over the moon at the prospect of being half naked in front of my colleagues :(
Ugh, I remember that. *shakes head* I don't see it as a mega important part of our learning.
But what i did take out of it, was how uncomfortable I was, and how it must feel for any of my patients. And I always try to make sure that they feel as comfortable as possible, and let them do what they can, to save any further embarrassment.
See, I have been a patient. I know how uncomfortable it is already. I really don't need reminding.
Better go and shave my legs so I can wear some shorts (my swimming shorts because I don't own any other types).
Yea I get you hun, Its more for those who haven't had to deal with anything like that, havent dealt with those degrading issues, and those who will all be having a ball and joke about it tomorrow. *Sign* I really feel for you, as I said I hated it!
Thankfully I am going to the pub tomorrow night. I will sink lots of beers to help me get over it :lol:

do you think if I "forget" my shorts I will be excused that part of it? Happy to wear a t-shirt and bring a towel, etc.

Isn't that awful!! My physio specialises in women's health, particularly pre and post natal care, and she is furthering her studies and has to do vaginal exams on her classmates :o many of whom are already colleagues - double :o!!! Embarrassing much?!

We jad to put nasogastric tubes down each other. I think it is a good way to teach how important privacy and respect is and what it is like to be half naked in front of near strangers. We also jad to do top to toe exams, bar vaginal amd anal exams, on each other.

Consent is a major part too.. If you are uncomfortable, they can't force you to do it.. I didn't consent to things like that.
We never had to do that, we did a placement in aged care and were assessed on bed baths there.
We did not do anything invaisive on each other apart from health assessments testing systems.

We didn't do anything like that. I did offer to be a dummy for class mates to attempts to put a IVC and although they were all happy to practice on me none were willing to let anyone do it on them!
When we had to do that, there were only 3 showers and only 3 lab assistants. So they took us in groups of 6 or so and someone from each group had to volunteer. The lab assistant "bathed" them. In our group, one of the guys volunteered. We just watched, but had to bath the folks at the nursing home.
I didn't even bring my swimwear ...

We only watched a DVD on it and then 'bathed' the dummys and changed their beds with them still in it. We didn't even use water.......to messy our teacher said...lol... and I even pre shaved my legs too thinking we had to bathe each other!! Glad we didn't have to do it properly!!
