hi, iv just invested in a bunch of BumGs and am slightly confused about the whole washing/drying etc. this is my first bub and we have used disposables up until now. well up until my nappies arrive in the mail. so excited!!
so whats the process. do u rince nappy as soon as you take it off? what is dry pail? can you use clothes dryer? etc etc lol

Everyone does things a little differently, but I'll tell you want I do...
When the nappies come off DS butt, they go straight into a nappy bucket, with no water. It's just the nappies on their little lonesome! (dry pailing)
I don't rinse nappies as soon as they come off, (with the exception of stick poos!) however i do wash every day. Before the wash I give the nappies a rinse on the rinse setting in the washing machine, then wash using Eco Store washing powder on cold.
You can use the clothes drier but it isn't recommended to put anything with PUL in it as it can make it delaminate and then not be waterproof. It can also damage the leg elastic. Bumg's are pockets yeah? they should dry pretty fast anyway as they're just a shell. It's fine for the inserts to go into the drier tho :)

Well I rinse any poo then chuck into a dry bucket that's it.
Then I put them in the machine on a rinse cycle, then normal wash with either soap nuts or bi-carb and then dry in the sun. I think you can use the dryer I have maybe once to finish them off, but I think if you did it too often it might wear the elastic quicker?? The sun is fantastic for killing bacteria and bleaching stains :D

If its a pooey nappy I rinse it off. I use a little squirt which is so helpful!! Then just goes in the empty bucket. No need to soak them. If you her stains the best way to fade them is to hang then out in the sun as much as possible. I use BBH and itti bittis have put then in the dryer a couple of times but I think they might say only to go up to a certain temperature.

Oh I use an airer for the nappies you can dry some flat on top for extra sun on any stains and you can move it around to follow the sun. Also if it rains you can just run out and pull the whole airer in in one go :)
Me too love it! We got all the bits from Bunnings and DP put it together works great and was almost half the price of an actual Little Squirt.:
Yeh I got in trouble when I came back from the baby expo with my little squirt cause DP said he could have done it himself! Oops! Either way I wouldn't do without it now :):

LOL I must say I was very sceptical when DP wanted to DIY I wanted to just order one, but it has worked out fine:p I wouldn't be with out it either!:
I guess the old poo spoon used to work ok too back in the day of my older 2 but I do love my squirt :D
ooohh thanks everyone. yep im actually really excited about switching. and the cleaning doesnt sound that difficult at all. :)
just another question.(i have heaps lol) when it comes to wees,how do you know when to change them. like with disposables,they kinda feel different when they r full of wee. same with cloth?? or do u just change every few hours..???
and yes,helle i got half pockets and half AIOs.
one more ??, can you use different brand boosters/inserts for diff nappys?
I usually wont leave anything on longer than 3 hours... I also go by how much DS drinks (it's not uncommon for him to skull back a good 300ml one water in 2 minutes, so a nappy change 20 minutes or so after is needed otherwise we get an overflow problem!) as to how often his butt will need to be changed, if that makes sense.:
with pockets, whatever you can stuff in there go for it!! I have some Ebay cheapie pockets that I will boost using Baby beehind or Cushie tushie bamboo trifolds. AIO you could probably use some extra trifold boosters, but you'd need to make sure you have suede cloth or microfleece against the skin still... so maybe use a liner if you're going to boost those up? (not too familar with AIO sorry!)
and I don't know if you have seen already, but there is also this thread full of BB's cloth addicts :)
I don't leave anything longer than about 3 hour either. The nappy will feel different when they're wet too though, you'll get to know each one :) I use different booster etc with different nappies, like Helle said as long as they fit it's all good.
