Teething symptoms & Daycare

Hoping you might be able to help (even though I know the smartest idea is to ask my DC). My DD gets a fever for a couple of days when she has teeth coming through. So far, this has meant I've had 1 month off out of 3 months back at work. Not really the best odds. I know that the fever is only due to teeth, but of course it seems she is not welcome at daycare at this time. I can certainly understand and appreciate that DC don't really know what the fever is caused by & usually it is a sign of sickness. For this reason I can appreaciate why they don't want the kids there. It just makes it a bit hard to make a solid go of working. I only returned 3 days a week & have 10+ years worth of sick leave sitting there, so missed pay is not the issue. I just don't feel I am giving work 100% effort & am considering whether I should resign.
Some thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Honestly though, I have no idea, teething won't last forever, but then on the other hand are you burning bridges at work with your time off?

My ds only went for the first time last Monday, came down with a cold on Wednesday and is STILL snotty tonight. I'm torn as to what to do as well!

At the end of the day, if you have an understanding boss and a sympathetic work team who understand what's going on I'd stick it out for a bit longer, maybe note down when she has a fever and when a tooth came in so you can show daycare and they might understand that she's not actually sick, just teething?

good question ... not sure what to day - I would think that for your DC this would not be an isolated event or question, and there should be some sort of policy in place to enable teething but healthy kids to be there ... ?

can i say please take her to the Dr's, a paediatrician told me that fever/high temps is not caused from teething and to have it checked out

i hope everything turns out to be ok and no DC arent really allowed kids with high temps specially if it wont go down after administering panadol but some DC wont administer it

as for work wise, i agree with others hopefully you have an understanding boss/team that you are a mum and do require time off if need be for your childrens health

I don't know if my circumstance is different but my family comes first, so TBH stuff work. If I can't send my DD to DC then so be it. I know alot of parents don't have that luxury (if that is the right word???) but I don't send my DD if she has had a really terrible nights sleep/teething/cough whatever if I deem she is too unwell to be at daycare for the day. (Her day at DC starts at 7am and goes til about 4.30/5pm). I guess I am fortuante enough to be able to work from home and have a supportive employer, so if I can't come in so-be-it. I totally understand the banked up sick leave/pay issue. I have about 3 months worth of banked up sick leave and long service leave. I guess you need to work out what is more important for you & your family. I tired staying at home full-time and it wasn't in the best interest (money & sanity) for my family. GL

Thanks for your thoughts ladies. Luckily I do work for good people, I think this is more me not feeling that I am doing the right thing by everyone work-wise. I will be checking with DC this week (if we get there) about their policies for teething. RhiChiChi I agree with alot of what you said & trust me I would not send my DD to DC either if she was sick. I certainly would hope the other parents would do the same thing if it was their child. I too can login from home to work, so am not totally "absent".

My kids have both had temps when teething so know what you mean. Can a doctor maybe give you a certificate or something saying the temp is caused by teething and nothing else? Wonder if the DC would accept that? But i can understand how annoying it would be for you. We have to pay for preschool days whether our kids have to go or not, which can be a PITA if they are sick.. xx

At our daycare they are happy to give panadol for the fever as long as it's for teething, they also administer bonjella and give them ice before eating if needed. Hopefully you can work something out with them. It is all about trust, if they know you would otherwise keep her at home hopefully they will understand it's teething and not anything else.
