3mths full time BFing and now engorged breasts??

Why would that be happening? My boobs are about to explode, like they get when you first start bfing. DS few last about 1 1/2 hrs ago, only from one side, but fed from the other side not too long before that. Even at night my breasts are not getting this full. I am worrying I might get mastitis. DS2 has been really unsettled this arvo and has been feeding ona nd off for a few hours. I though it could be because I have been eating alot os the foods I usually avoid over a few days and it's upset his tum, but maybe it's my milk?? What is going on??? I so don't need a bout of mastitis, bub has gone to sleep now, likely for at least 3 hours, usually 4-5 at this time of night, and I can't find my pump. On nooooo!!
Anyone have any thoughts?

What about if you have a hot shower and use an electric toothbrush to massage them?

Express some milk until your breasts are soft and comfortable. If you can't find that pump hand expressing in the shower might work. After you have emptied them as much as you can, put an icepack on them to reduce the inflamation and take a couple of neurofen (or panadol) Rest. You might want to wake your baby and feed a bit more often that usual. If, despite your best efforts you can't shift the engorgement and it becomes mastitis, it's no biggie - head to the dr for some-antibiotics in the morning. You will be better soon - no worse than a bout of flu and at least it's treatable

If he's been feeding more often yesterday it might have made a difference to today, KWIM? I found if P had an unsettled day where she was constantly feeding, even that one day would make my boobs produce more so that if she then went back to normal the following day I'd be bursting.
Dunno what his pattern has been like the last couple of days?
I'm not really a believer in what you eat effecting your milk but I know there are those who swear it is so. I'd be more inclined to think he's either unsettled because of a growth spurt or maybe getting the beginnings of a cold or maybe a bit of wind that doesn't want to budge.

Thanks. I have tried the shower and express, but I have a pretty terrible technique and didn't get much out after about 5-10mins, just made my boobs more tender.
I have had mastitis before so I know what I'm looking out for and what I'm in for if I get it. I have a headache and feel a bit achey, but it could be due to other things too (lack of sleep and a big day today and what I think could be a chest infection). It is really hard to get into a doctor here, which is why I'm a bit worried. I tried to get DS1 into see a doc on Friday morning because he had croup and was advised to take him into hospital if he was struggling to breathe because the doctors surgeries (one a private practice, one a medical centre with usually 4 doctors on a day) were all full until Monday!
I have been feeding DS2 sd often as he will let me put my boobs in his mouth, lol! I tried to feed him as he was going to sleep, but he just would not take it.
I am just wondering why it would be happening all of a sudden like this? Nothing has changed, DS2 isn't feeding anymore than he usually does, I'm not taking medication or anything....would it be my cycles? I had my first AF about a week or so ago, so could it be due to the changes in my hormones?

Hun, it could be your cycle. Many babies refuse for a while during mum's first or second menstrual cycle. No-one tells you how stressful it can be. You are doing all the right things so he should go back to the breast soon. Lots of skin to skin contact with no pressure to feed can help, and also taking a bath together and letting him see that the breasts are available, again with no pressure. I know mums who have gone topless for a whole weekend to entice their baby back to the breast (and it worked!). Also you might find he feeds better when sleepy, or during the light sleep cycle.

If you think you might have mastitis, tell them that when you ring up the doctor's surgery. They always have spaces saved for emergencies and that is something that can't wait. And if all else fails you could go to the emergency department.
