Reflux formula causing constipation in baby with Silent Reflux..

Ok first a little background..

DD2 (7 weeks tomorrow) has silent reflux. We suspected from about 3 weeks. Doctor put her on Zantac and it did help a little but not completely. He since switched her last Tuesday to Losec. We also decided to start her on the Novalac Reflux formula and she has been a completely different baby. Have not had an issue with her reflux now for 2 days, which use to be an issue every day all day.

But now DD2 is constipated. We started her on Thursday on the Reflux formula every second bottle until the usual formula is finished. She normally only does a poo every second day. She did one Saturday night, quite a big one. And then since this morning she has been pushing like mad to only eventually get a small amount out that is now quite firm, as appose to her usual goop!

Im just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the Novalac Reflux formula making their baby constipated? Should i stop the Reflux formula and see if the Losec is fine on its own for the reflux? Has any other babies with silent reflux just used the Losec to combat their reflux with regular formula?

Kell, it is just the reflux formula full stop. DS2 had to have Karicare AR and he got really constipated too so I had to put infants friend in his bottles to help with the constipation and soften his poos. Otherwise they would be hard little nuggets and he even got a few tiny fissures from trying to get them out.

Poor little thing. Im just wondering if i should stop using the AR formula and see if the Losec is enough on its own for her reflux? We gave her infants friend when she was2 weeks old for her colic and other tummy issues and i think it made her worse. Not sure if giving it to her now would have a different out come since shes a bit older? Poor little thing looks in pain. :(

Dd1 was the same too. However she was more extreme cos she was constipated on every cows milk based formula.

We ended up with her on goats milk formula (apparently it is more easily digested?) and homeopathic drops for her reflux, instead of the typical medicine :)

my little man has silent reflux he should be getting losec tomorrow, as the zantac made him very unhappy (the taste he really didnt like)
i have him on S26 gold and went to change him on S26 AR, the first bottle he screamed and threw tantrums all night (he only drinks the recommended amount or less and it doesnt expand until its in the tummy so i think he had a sore tummy :( ). so i've just kept him on the S26 gold and poo has been wonderful he still does poo's like he's on bf and poo's 4-5 times a day. i've also heard just 10 ml or so of water can help too with constipation. if she isnt a chucky baby she might be able to stay on normal formula my son just does lots of spew burps (they hardly come up and if they do its not much) his pain is the acid. you can go back to your doctor and have a chat or a health nurse and see what suggestions they may have. :)
