22 month old getting up at 4.30am... HELP!!!!!!!!

DS2 is an OK sleeper generally - goes to bed ok at night and has maybe 1-2 settles in the night (sometimes not).. however for the last month he wakes up around 430 and will not resettle - he is wide awake and standing in his cot saying 'out, out'. we have tried all manner of settling - sittingwith him, singing, even a form of controlled comforting (leaving for 2 mins). nothing works and we end up getting him up and watching wiggles and he has some milk or an 'up and go'. i thought he may be hungry but i dont think that is waking him...
He wont come into our bed, he just wont EVER sleep in there... we have tried many times...
Any ideas PLEASE....

I was wondering if we should get him a bed so we can lie with him, i am not sure this will work, as he doesnt sleep with us (this is what we did with DS1 at about 20 months) but I would like any suggestions at all....

My DS was the same at this age when he tried this one i made sure he ate all dinner so i didn't feel as if he was hungry through the night. Make sure there is a bedtime routine bath story bed type thing. When he woke i would go change his bum and make a bottle without ever getting him out and not go back in. So this failed because he was a cryer to the point of making himself sick we ended up buying him a bed which he hates and wont sleep in. Currently hes now 2 and 2mnths and sleeps all night in his cot which is in our room :D

We have this same problem too every now and then. I just end up getting up with her :-s maybe get a bed for him and that way he can play in his room until everyone is ready to get up. This might cause some tantrums but if you are consistent he might adjust....sorry not much help. We're just riding it out here until all her molars come through :-s

5am is normal here, 4.30 not unheard of.
No matter what routine/time/daysleeps/anything we do, he still wakes early. It is just him.
i remember as a kid, always being up at 5-6 am
I think thats just what some kids do.
DH is a tradie, so he rises early anyway.
Maybe you have an early bird???

Maybe it's time for him to be in a proper bed! I've noticed that mine slept better (after a few unsettled nights at first) when they went to a bed. I think it's got to do with being roomier and not bumping into hard edges of the cot!

I have DD in a bed and she went from sleeping until 7ish (in bed with me) to waking at 5-5.30am. There is no way she will go back to sleep, just lucky for me that DH is up at that time for work so I don't have to deal with her!

We do have a good night routine - always have with dinner, play, bath, books, bed - he loves his night routine.
he doesnt always eat all his dinner - sometimes none at all if he is v tired from daycare - but he eats well generally. I havent noticed a massive difference if he eats a lot at night, but will try that more (we have a nanny starting 2 days a week next week so he can eat earlier those days).
Hmmm - I am in no way an early riser - I hope I havent bred one!!!!!
Any other tips welcome, we might try the bed... but i am worried it will make it worse!!
Though how much worse than 4.30ish can it get??!!!

I would say he is asleep by 7.20 most nights - he has one day sleep in the middle of the day.

I agree, maybe hes just an early bird.
DD is a late sleeped, bed between9-11pm and up around 8.
Makes it hard if we have to get moving early!

hhhmmmm, i'm just wondering what would happen if you stretched his bedtime out to 8.30pm? would that make any difference?
J has dropped his day sleep now, which is a lot easier but i know he's a little older than your J

I could try that... though he is pretty tired by 7ish...
when did J drop his sleep? i was wondering if J will drop his (which would be weird as N still sleeps mostly)but he really seems to need it.

he has started slowly dropping it over the last couple of months. he can go about 4 days without one, and then one day he will just completely crash and sleep for about 3 hours. i actually like no day sleep better as it is much easier to get him to go to sleep at night and he usually sleeps in later in the morning too.
