whats she doing this for!?!?!?!

So DD has ALWAYS self settled, im talking from day one in the hospital we have never had to help her to sleep.
we have always put her down awake and she has just put herself to sleep no problems!
we are very thankful for that, given the sleep issues we hear about...

now in the last few days DD has decided that when she gets put down for her day sleeps she will throw a tanty.
i wait for her tired signs and put her to bed when she shows her signs but she goes wild! :o she cries and screams and growls.

now im not one to stand there until she goes to sleep, im happy to have her cry for a few mins at a time because i know there is nothing wrong with her.

she has a dummy to sleep and generally she is carrying on with the dummy in her mouth :rolleyes: thinks she is real clever!!

so im just wondering do they go through a sleep regression or something around 5months?

i know its not the end of the world im more curious than worried. :)

Yep.
Just because they sleep well at the start, doesn't mean they always will. They're always changing, you just have to go with it.
They do go through stages where they really need company and get distressed when left alone - I've always found those stages pass quicker if I give them that company. Sometimes even when they're fed, dry, warm etc, they still have real needs beyond that.
DD also self settled for the first month, thought all my christmases had come at once! Then she grew out of it :lol:

Yep, sleep regression and a massive wonder week (week 20) at that age. It should pass if you're consistent with you're routine but she'll probably need a bit more comfort and reassurance than usual as wonder weeks can really freak them out. That one was a complete doozy for our DD!

Ds neverself settled however for the first six months of his life he was an awesome sleeper. Then it went to crap... And I'm still trying to work him out ten months on!

This happens to us approx every 3 months or so! Just when things are going good then wham another few weeks of being unsettled when it's sleep time and needing that extra comfort. Sometimes it's as simple as just staying by her cot, she just needs the reassurance that we are there for her. We definitely went through it big time around 4 months, 7/8 months, 11 months and are just cruising out of another patch of it. The fact that it does pass it what gets us through it.

Like MadB we find it settles quicker if we help her through it. Good luck and hope everything settles soon :crossfingers:

I recognise she is still really young, but maybe you need to drop a sleep to ensure that she is really tired instead of just used to her routine. I found that with both my kids (one self settler and one not) that this was a reaction when they weren't ready to go.

i do find if she had a small sleep in the morning she will have a big one in the arvo, so she kinda makes up for it...

this morning she had a hour and after carrying on for another half an hour i gave up and got her up and she was quite happy in her bouncer until it was "lunch" time for her, then a hour later i looked over and she had gone to sleep on the floor so she is now in bed! :lol: now i wont expect her up until 3-4pm.....
