HELP she licked a closed bottle of nail polish remover!

I'm such an idiot - my daughter found a bottle of nail polish remover (it was closed with childproof lid) but she licked around the lid (where the lid meets the neck of the bottle), and I'm worried that there may have been some dried residue that she ingested.

I haven't used nail polish for... well, years, so I have no idea how she found it, I think it was under the bed!

Anyway I panicked and licked the top myself, to see if it tasted like anything, and there was a very slight taste of residue...

Do you think she would be okay? She didn't seem to react in any way when she licked it... and she appears to be fine...

But I think I'm going to call the doctor... I thought I had all poisonous things locked away, but obviously I haven't been careful enough. :wall:

Call the poisons info line if you want, but I dont think they will be too worried about it.

She should be fine, DS was hanging out with dad in the yard and Dh wasnt watching him and he started playing with thinners :(

He started yelling out to me mum this smells... and came inside to wash his hands, and he was covered in the stuff. No harm done. Lucky he was smart enough not to put it in his eyes.....

though im sure it could of been alot worse....

If she's not reacting in any way, I'd say she's fine. Chances are there is not much remover dried on the outside of the lid.

If it makes you feel any better, my son ate cat litter the other day. He's doing fine. Despite our best efforts, we can never hide away everything that might harm our little ones.

But Mum2Ramone, your son didn't actually ingest any did he? I think getting on your skin is different?

My little guy sucked on a pump bottle of soap that had salts in it. I tasted it too and it nearly made me gag! I phoned health direct and the nurse was great. All was fine and I am sure your lil gal is too :)

oh how scary, but im pretty sure like everyone else has mentioned she shouldnt have any harm done to her, i dont think residue is as harmful as drinking the bottle iykwim?

I would call a poisions line too just maybe to be on the safe side of things

My DD2 found an OPEN (:o) bottle of nail polish remover in DD1's bedroom and ended up with some in her eye. DH quickly rushed her to the hospital where we were told the main issues with nail polish remover arise when the remover is acetone based. Thankfully the one we had was non acetone so DD2 was fine and DD1 was banned from having anything like that in her room again.

I also called poisons information as DH was racing out the door and they told me the same thing. They are brilliant and I have called them a few times over the years, their number is on speed dial on my phone ;) and they're in my mobile. The number is 13 11 26

Im not sure but he could have... he pretty much smelt it and it was all over his face, luckily not in his eyes. thinners burn too but thankfully i washed him quick.... thinner is alot stronger than nail polish remover though. Hows she seem now?

My ds pulled the smelly liquid thing out of the toilet once and sucked on the opening. He's still alive but smelled like toilet for the rest of the day. Now THAT'S something I didn't really think of...

I don't think it'll do much damage. In any case give her lots if milk or water to help dilute it.
