Toddlers bright green poo.... normal?

DD went to playgroup lastweek... the first time all year (i tend not to go because when i do she gets horribly sick). So this time was no different. Poor poppet has a runny/blocked nose, a slight cough and a temp. This morning when she woke I took her night nappy off and it was bright green. No joke.. like the green grass outside kind of colour.
Shes still kind of eating (you know... the amount kids eat when they are sick) and I am keeping up her fluids.

So is this green (runny but not like water) poo, normal?

I think you kind of answered your own question....If it was "normal" you wouldn't have noticed it and you wouldn't be concerned enough to post about it.

I would say, no, not normal.

FWIW, my DD never had bright green poo.

It might be worth getting her checked out.

Do you think its worth a hospital trip on a sunday?

Has she eaten anything blue? Or had panadol or painkillers of any kind? These can make poo green.

You could try phoning the 13HEALTH line - you can speak to a registered nurse, who might be able to give some advice. HTH. :hug:

Shes had panadol but hasnt eaten anything blue or green as her eating is limited atm. I did manage to get her to eat fruit loops yesterday though.. come to think of it, they have blue in it but she didnt eat many.

Shes pretty happy though, considering. Her temp was over 37 this morning but with panadol it has come down to 36.3.

Im going to take her to the docs tomorrow to get her checked out anyway and mother intuition tells me that she will be fine until then but will keep an eye on it.

Shes the type of kid that doesnt get sick often but when she does it usually results in antibiotics or a hospital stay... so I guess Im just over protective of her when shes sick.

I reckon it might be the fruit loops and panadol then. My dd gets it from panadol.

Trust your intuition, but it never hurts to take her to the doctor anyway because if she has a temp it could be an ear infection or similar.

the green would be from the fruitloops, every time i buy them, i hear excited yells from the toilet "mummy my poo is GREEN!" and my daughters nappies are green if she eats them to.
but as for the runny water like part and temp, i think that could be a bug. hope she is ok.

I don't know how 'normal' it is, but my DD has had greenish poo on occasion, with no other symptoms. Since she otherwise seemed happy and well, I just took it as 'one of those things' and assumed it was something she'd eaten. Personally I'd say it'd be fine to wait 'till you chat to the doc tomorrow.

We have had more than our fair share of green ones and we found out he gets stomach bugs often like prone to them due to his digestion. If its a one off or clears up dont be too worried keep fluids up and check weight loss
