TMI bartholin cyst anyone had one

i spent monday to wednesday in pain then thursday to this monring in complete agony taking panadol every 4hrs i have never had one before and it was horrid hurt to sit then to get up was mega pain. Just wondering if you have had one what did you do i was told about heat working so used a heatpack last night and it popped this morning ewww i did a google and am pretty sure this is what it was/is still sore but heaps better pain wise also it was huge :redface:

Im assuming this is what it was but it wasnt were they say it should be so maybe it was just a cyst

i had one in the late stages of my second pregnancy.

mine never burst and im sure its still there, need to get it checked out when i have my pap smear

Bartholin's glands they're on the just the inside entrance of the vagina. So that would be something else altogether.

Cysts are painless, abcesses painful, from memory of reading about it.

Ask a chemist or see a GP.

Ree, that is what it could be. I had one a few years back and it got to well over golfball size but by the time I got in to see my GP it had gone down enough that 1 he didn't need to lance and drain it at the hospital and 2 I didn't need antibiotics. It was extremely painful and I had no idea what it was because I'd never had one before so you can imagine how worrying it is!

Emc, yep they are on the inside, but when they get infected like that, they become quite large and you can certainly feel them in the area Ree described. A cyst isn't always painless either.

i had an infected bartholins cyst and had to have it surgically lanced (it surpassed the size of a golf ball within a couple of hours) - it was nasty. was inside the labia - not on the outside where leg meets labia - that sounds more like it may have been an infected sebaceous cyst (which i get semi regularly -but not that big - and they tend to pop on their own in an ewwwww fashion)

The Bartholin's glands (also called greater vestibular glands) are two glands located slightly below and to the left and right of the opening of the vagina. They lubricate the vagina during sexual arousal.

A cyst happens when the duct gets blocked up, an abscess is when the cyst gets infected.

I had a girlfriend who had an abscess and had to have surgery to remove the abscess and part of the gland.

TMI it was so gross when it popped in looks and smelt a little :redface: when i would stand it would take aboout 5minutes before i could stand completely upright it felt like a ripping stabbing feeling it was up there with one of the most painful things i have experienced it is still sore but not like the last few days

I had a Bartholin's cyst removed a few years ago, it wasn't an abscess but the doctors felt it was better to remove it before / in case it got to that point. They said when they do see them as abscesses they are extremely painful. Keep an eye on it, it might be worth getting your doctor to check it out just to be sure it is clearing up by itself.

I just recently had a barthonlins gland cyst 'marsupialized.' A barthonlins gland is at the base of the vaginal entrance and happens when the gland becomes blocked. I had one about 4 months ago and it was lanced by my gyno. It was a lump on my perineum that was squishy. It was painless but just a lump. It then reappeared about 3 weeks ago, much bigger and became extremely painfull in two days to the point where I took myself to emergency. I was recommended to go to to Royal Womens (in melbourne) and they saw me there. THis was a Sunday and they booked me in for surgery on the Tuesday. By Tuesday, I couldn't sit stand or walk without extreme pain and was living on panadeine forte. It felt like being stung by wasps on my perineum - yea! The surgery, whilst a general, was incredibly quick - I was in at 7:30, awake by 9:00 and home by 1:00pm. Upon waking the pain relieft was immediate, and I was looking after 3 kids on the Thursday. I am back to normal now, cept a bit itchy on the site where the stiches still are.

The procedure, a 'marsuplization' (hop! hop! :) ) is done by lancing the cyst and then making a small hole which is sewn open. This is to ensure that the cyst can't become blocked again (can happen, but unlikely!). I highly recommend it!

I also highly recommend you going to your nearest women's hospital if possible. I live an hour way, and it was still worth while going - they knew exactly what I was talking about, had a gyno on emergency staff (I assume this would be unlikely at a general hospital, especially if you go to emergency out of hours) and were super understanding, sensitive and knowlegeable.

I understand the pain, and I sympathise, it was incredible. I would prefer labour to the cyst pain again!
