Travel at 38 weeks?
Hi all,
Just trying to decide if we will have a weekend up the coast (approx 1.5-2 hours away from our birth centre) at 38 weeks and I'm after some feedback if you would travel then. My in-laws (who are fantastic) have invited us up and it would be a very relaxing weekend with them to help with DS and I'll just laze around.
DS was 12 days late with a 10 hour labour (though it did onset suddenly - no warning signs or pre labour before we were in "established" labour). We are sure of dates as this pg is IVF.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Yep, I would. If I had any contractions or anything I'd just head home straight away, it's not that far.
So close now!

I live in Sydney and drove to Melbourne when I was 38wks with DD2. I just made sure I had a few things just incase and my hospital card with me. Had no problems and bubs did not arrive for another 3.5 weeks anyway. I was so glad I went

As long as everything is going well with the pregnancy and baby then I probably would.
We went away late in pregnancy with our second (not quiet that late though) and we had a great time, I floated around the pool the whole time and didn't get out of my swimmers just wore a pull on strapless dress when we walked the 100m's to the lagoon/shops/food.
Have a great time if you go.

Yeah, go for it :) 1.5-2 hours isnt that far and im sure it will do you good :) My hospital is 1.5 hours from where I live!

i think being 2 hours away would be ok.....
it sounds very lovely and relaxing

As long as you have a planned route to the birth centre and know the maximum time it will take if the traffic is busy - and you are comfortable with that then I would go. Make sure you take your bags and all your medical stuff if you have to go straight there though.

Depends how you feel about the possibility of a 2 hour drive during labour? ;) If that doesn't bother you then yeah, go for it!
I personally wouldn't only because I went into spontaneous labour with DD at 38+5 and my contractions were three minutes apart in no time which made the 15 minute drive to the hospital quite uncomfortable. The thought of maybe being stuck in a car for a couple of hours during labour doesn't do it for me at all!
Good luck deciding

I'd go, have fun and relax. You could be pregnant for another 4 weeks and it's not very realistic to live life on the what ifs :-)

I'd definitely go!! What better than a nice relaxing weekend. Sounds great!

Relaxing weekend at the beach = win for pregnant mummies. Enjoy it and have some plans in place just in case things do start to happen.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your positive input. I really do want to go.
Tauren - yup, the thought of being in labour in a car for 2 hours is not pleasant!
Sounds like our first labours were similar -my first and 2nd contractions were 4 minutes apart and only got closer from there! But I will just have to manage in the car. And, I figure, I can always go to the local hospital if really needed (can't I?).
I think the main thing stopping me is the thought of having baby up there or on the way to the hospital and having everyone going "aren't you stupid for travelling at 38 weeks!". But seeing as most of you don't think it is stupid, then maybe people won't think that...
