Anyone ever seen or heard of this or similar in a baby.

My daughter was born with what can only be described as a fluid filled bubble under her tongue it is the shape of a blue bottle (that you find on the beach) it has a blood vessel in the middle of it and is about 3cm long by 2cm round.
It pushes her tongue up slightly so she was unable to breastfeed it doesnt seem to bother her in any other way.
When she cries it is very noticeble and the doctors at the hospital and the peadiatrician all said they have never seen anything like it so have referred us to a oral plastic surgeon on the 9th of june to have it looked at and discuss having it removed before it effects her speech ect.
They have mentioned blocked salivary gland or cystic hydranoma( spelling) but as it isnt getting any bigger they doubt it is that.
Has anyone seen or know someone with anything similar and how was it removed.

I haven't seen anything like it ferrals. So if its not growing and her mouth is getting bigger is it possible it can stay there and not cause any issues with feeding, speech etc later on? Has it shrunk at all? It does sound rather large but to just leave it there. Is it hard or soft? Can they remove part of it but leave the vessel bit?

Hi Midez it is soft just like the rest of the skin under her tongue and no it has not shrunk at all it seems to be keeping up with her growth and i would love not to have to have it removed but it is pretty noticeble when she cries yawns ect.

I have heard of a cystic hygroma, but never seen one. Sounds very odd, no, I've never encountered anything like you are describing.

I am sorry I can't offer any advice Ferrals. If its fluid filled is it possible to drain it? Hopefully you get some answers when you see the oral Dr.

Ferals I have seen two babies with cysts under their tongue (one was huge), they sound the same as what your baby has. I don't really know what followup they ended up having, as it wasn't deemed urgent and they were followed up after leaving hospital. Good luck, I'm sure she will do well, hopefully it will be easy to remove.

Thanks i will just have to wait and see what the surgeon says next month.
