Starting to bite and thinks it funny!

I am sure this has been posted before as we are definitely not the first to have this issue!

DS who is 20 months has started biting and thinks it is the funniest thing ever. At the moment it is just DH and me that he is trying to bite. I am fairly sure that his 2 year molars are starting to move/come through and wondered if this might be the reason for starting this behaviour?

At present he isn't trying to do it to anyone else but do want to nip in the bud before it gets out of hand.

He thinks it is just funny when we say sternly no biting that hurts Mummy/Daddy he basically just laughs and goes in for a 2nd bite. Doesn't particularily seem to be linked to being tired or hungry. He is definitely going through a phase of trying to assert his will on us at the moment so we are having a number of tanties and battles on a number of levels.

Any ideas of what we can do to change this behaviour? Or is is just a phase that will pass?

Argh, DD went through that stage as well and it's so hard! She did eventually grow out of it, but it's a tough stage. Be firm, consistent with the "No, that hurts!" but I found it also helped to then either put her down if I was carrying/cuddling her or if at home and playing with her I'd stop playing and walk away, find something else to do.

It kind of says that you don't think it's funny without making a big deal out of it or giving it a payoff of lots of attention, if that makes sense?

DS went through this stage a little earlier than your DS & we tried the stern 'no biting, that hurts' and also putting him down/walking away but found it just made it worse & he'd try to go in for the 2nd bite like your DS. We then tried saying to him 'kisses or raspberries' when he would come at us with that wide open scary mouth! He quickly would then start to either give us a kiss or it would become a game of raspberries which he finds hilarious. Not sure if it will work for you but it worked a treat here. GL

Now, if only I could find a way to stop the hitting that has started....arrggghhhhh!
