Just curious when everyone's toddlers dropped their day sleep? For the last two days my Moo has only had a half hour instead of his usual 90mins+. This afternoon he's been in his cot stuffing around for about 40mins. I think I'll be getting him up soon :wall:
Am really hoping this isn't it for his naptime! I need a nap too :lol:
He seems to have stopped in the last few weeks but Its killing me lol and I think he finds it harder to sleep of a night becasue hes over tired... but he goes down about 7.30pm now whereas before it was 8.30 or 9pm.... and sleeps til 9am usually :)

My DS is four and still has day sleeps most days except when he is at preschool or at grandma's. He gets tired and is much happier with a nap. I've thought he was dropping it a few times but it always ended in disaster. He would be feral so the sleep was reinstated. Besides most of the time he conks out in the car or tells me he's tired.

dd stopped day sleeps about a week after dd2 was born...great timing!!! but she still needs one really, by 5pm shes knakered and falling asleep at the dinner table. if she goes a whle week without a nap she normally passes out about 2.30pm one day and then stillgoes to bed at a reasonable time! at his age, id say it was a stage but you never know...some kids just tend to need less sleep....run him round the playground all morning ;) that might help!
My DD hasn't had a day sleep since before she was 2, can't remember exactly when but it has been a good few months now. She goes to bed at 6pm and starts the day around 7:30am. If she ever does happen to fall asleep in the afternoon than she is up past 9pm but sometimes it is needed so I just go with it.
ETA: it was an adjustment at first, trying to keep her occupied for the entire day without a break but I prefer it now. We never have to worry about organising things around day sleeps and she goes down for bed (and sleeps better overnight) super easily.
Scout turned three in March and he still sleeps everyday.
I have just started cutting him back to an hour though cause night bedtime was becoming a bit of a mission. He still needs it even though he fights me on it and tries to tell me hes not tired.
The later bedtime is so worth not having to deal with an absolute "go play on the motorway" kid I have when he doesnt have a sleep
Thank goodness my children both still have day sleeps. They are totally feral without them ( but they are also feral with them, just the severity of the feralness differs.).
DS will be 4 in 2 months and he still has a day sleep pretty much evry day for an hour.
DD just turned 2 2 weeks ago and still has a couple of hours every morning. She cut down to 1 day sleep well before she was 12 months old and it KILLED me. I could not survive without the kids having a day sleep!!
DS stopped at about 2.5yrs. DD is 19 months and 30-60 minutes is normal for her. She went down to one sleep at 10 months. So won't be too surprised if the day sleeps go before 2yrs (unfortunate though that will be). If she sleeps longer than 1.5hrs it is impossible to get her to bed at night.
DS mucked around like that though, and then went back to sleeping well for months, so don't give up hope! :D
Funny how they're all so different! I've given up on the nap today. I really wanted a lie down myself though :lol: Going to be a long afternoon...

it hard to get used to and manage the whole day without them having a sleep at first. maybe try quiet time, give him a toy or something that he can quietly play with in his cot, atleast then, even if he stops having his day naps, you can get the routine of putting him in his room for half an hour or something and you can have a cuppa and have a breather!!
DS started TRYING to go without and he owuld usually pass out around 3 or4 and sometimes sleep for three or so hours and then be up till oh um.. 11PM!!!!!!!
That started when he was about two and a bit... we also have a problem with bed time as Daddy gets home late and for awhile we tried to all have dinner together which wouldnt happen til like 8 or so, so the 11pm thing was actually kind of ok with our routine, and DS would sleep in til at least 9am..
But we have since moved and Dh is gettin ghom eeven later and i have gotten jack of it and gotten us into a nice routine of no nap.. dinner at 6:30, bath and bed by 8:30. He wakes up between 7 and 8 now though, which is ok coz i was always up with DD anyway.
This little routine worked great for a week when DH wasnt getting home until 9-9:30 ish, (except that he didnt get to see the kids :-( )
This week he has gotten home that little bit earlier and thrown everything into chaos.. it just gets DS sooooooo excited that there is no way he is going to sleep at 8:30 when Daddy has just walked through the door!!! And then because he hasnt had his nap he is feral the next day coz he hasnt had enough sleep!! yesterday was shocking and he ended up curling up on his bean bag at about 5 and passing out, and i had had such a day with him thta i was like "thank god!!!" he only slept for an hour and then was up til 10...
So in a perfect world DS would be ok without a nap (he is nearly three) but that littl ebit of excitement or break in our little routine stirs things up and can take days to recover from lol!!!
Isaac stopped day sleeps around 19months.
It was gradual; went from sleeping every day to 3 out of every 5, then once a week, then not at all. I used to put him in his cot at the start with a few books for some quiet time which was enough to give us both a quick recharge for the rest of the arvo. He will have the odd nap in the car if we go out late in the afternoon but then he doesn't sleep until 9pm.
It was hard at first, but as we've both adjusted it's so much easier. As someone else mentioned- going out/getting things done is much easier and he goes to sleep much easier at night. His actual sleep hasn't improved but it's not worse either so I guess he was just ready to drop the day sleep.

DS dropped his a few months ago (at around 3), but will still ocasionally fall asleep in front ofthe telly or int he car if we're very lucky. He did go through no nap phases at times, so hopefully that's all it is with your little one.
My little energiser bunny stopped day sleeps when she was about 8 months. Thankfully, about 12 months she started to have one 45min - an hour nap again each day, i am loving it!
My DD is almost 2yrs 4mths and still very much needs her day nap (1.5-2.5hrs) around midday. She still wakes of a night time (although goes straight back to sleep) so we know she still needs the daytime nap aswell... plus she's an early riser!!! Is buggered by lunch time :) Which is great for me as I need that rest time too. I really don't think she'll be ready to drop her day time sleep anytime soon....
DD didn't drops hers until 3.5, than goodness with a new baby in the house. But DS is a whole different kettle of fish. He's 27months old and has dropped his in the last month. Like a PP said it was kind of gradual, with him missing one then having one, then a couple of days until they just stopped.
However bedtimes went from over an hour to 6 minutes in total....so worth it.
DS1 will be 3 this weekend and we are slowly approaching the dropping of the day sleep i'd say. Over the last month probably every 3 to 4 days he misses it- some times 2 days in a row. But by the third day he NEEDS it. I think DS1 still needs it most days though- total grump come 5pm most days without it- sometimes falling asleep on the lounge while i'm getting dinner ready (which really mucks up bedtime). But i'm finding it harder to get him down for his day sleep. Even noticed he has been missing sleeps at childcare (goes 2 days a week)- but it seems a common theme with his kindy friends- i'm seeing alot more 'rest' instead of sleep times with them all.
To help with sleep time i usually read a book or 2 to my DS1. And sometimes a tickle and a song. I also have brought him into my bed- especially on days when i need a nap and can time it right with DS2's day sleep (he's 16months and still very much loves his day sleep). The beauty is once i get them to sleep they both usually sleep a minimum of 2-3hrs- enough time for me to do house work, shower, get dinner ready and even have a nap or rest myself. So i will keep encouraging day sleeps for them both for as long as i possibly can.
