Hi all,
Am not sure whether this is the right area to post... Mods please move if not...
MY DD is 11 weeks old and completely breastfed... Over the past 10 days we have noticed very light stringy poo in her nappy... I don't see this at every nappy change... Maybe a couple during the day and somedays nothing...
Should I be concerned? She seems quite contented otherwise, gaining weight, alert, smiling etc etc

Stingy looking poo is normal, I wouldn't be concerned.
Your title mentions blood though? What colour is it? How much and how often?
It isn't unusual for babies to develop anal fissures on occasion, which can cause small amounts of bright red blood, they will usually heal on their own. If it is large volumes of blood I would get bubs checked immediatelyl

It is pale red colour... Her colour poo is mostly yellow and every now and then there will be a couple of blood spots in the nappy along with the poo... This does not happen at every poo... Maybe once to a couple of times during the day (she poos 4 - 6 times) and then some days there will be no blood... This has been happening over the past 8-10 days...:
Sounds like a fissure. I wouldn't be concerned unless it increases dramatically. They usually get them from straining. :)
Can also be a reaction to the protein in dairy (in your diet). DS2 had this, I took all dairy out of my diet for 8 weeks & then reintroduced it & he was fine. I *think from memory though, it was every nappy change. If it continues or increases it might be worth getting checked out.
My little man had blood in his poo and i freaked and called the maternal child health line. The explained it can happen from straining. But if you are really stressed about it a visit to your GP won't hurt.
by 'stringie', do you mean mucus?
DS had mucus, blood & bloody mucus in his poo. The bloody mucus was sometimes fresh & red, other times it was brown & old. The guts sheds mucus when it is challenged by something. Like making a slipperly surface to try to remove what the challenge is. This can be a virus, bacteria, or a food allergy/sensitivity. The blood is obviously damage and the colour indicates the age of the blood. The older the blood, typically, the further up the intestines the blood has travelled from.
If your baby is otherwise happy & healthy, it's probably not an issue. Maybe take a nappy to show you MHCN. If there are any other health concerns, bring them up too, as it might be something else. Jack had very bad silent reflux and bloody mucus can be a symptom. Ofcourse, he had a whole lot of other symptoms, too.
DS had this at one stage. He'd had lots of poos in the preceeding days, more than normal and it turned out that he had just done some minor damage. I took him to the doctor though cause it worried me and he gave me a specimen jar to take a sample if it didn't clear up.
If it worries you, just drop into your doctors and grab a specimen jar and then you can get it checked out.
I would say just to get your dr to check it out. It could be any of the things mentioned. It might also be threadworm (which you cann't do anything about until they reach a certain age anyway). Either way, a doctor will be able to take a look (take a 'sample' with you ;) ) and put your mind at ease. Better then relying on internet opinions. :D
