Qld pre prep programs
I've read a couple of other threads on this, but I'm still totally confused.
I was thinking of sending DS to pre-prep next year, but have no idea what to look for, or what questions to ask, how much it's going to cost or what's involved. He already goes to family day care, which I love (she's in our street!), but someone's feel like he's being held back coz the other two three-year-olds (between 4 and 6 months you get than DS) don't know their colours or alphabet etc or are struggling when DS does. DS can spell his own name, even write it sometimes, where the others can't. I thi k he'd benefit from some sort of structure. The fdc lady also looks after a baby and there are days where she can only focus on the baby and can't give as much attention as she'd like to the kids.
So what does a preprep program involve? What do they do? Im in QLD, and have been told one of the local private schools have a c&k thing. A friend sends her daughter there and thinks they're great.
What questions do I need to ask and what do I need to look for?
Dh has absolutely no idea what it even is!

Pre prep is being offerred in a number of formats in Qld - C&K was the primary one up until recently when the kindergarten program was introduced into some LDC. In the LDC format, a bachelor qualified staff member is employed to provide the program.
But don't think that you won't find a quality program if the centre doesn't have a bachelor qualified teacher because many still provide the same standard with a diploma qualified staff member.
A pre prep program should provide lots of opportunity for independence, learning to care for their own possessions, being able to open their own lunch packages, etc is essential once that in a class of 25-35 kids next year.
Our pre prep class does show and tell to gain confidence n front of a group, they learn basic phonics, so the sounds of the letters, basic rhymes of how to write the letters, basic counting, shapes, colour. Usually by the end of the year they are beginning to write or can easily write their name.
The routine should be fairly structured, as in they have to do certain things at certain times of day, that's what school is like so they need to learn that too.
Above all it should be play based!

DD#1 is at pre-prep this year - at a C&K centre in north brissy.
She goes 5 days a fortnight, from 9am-2:15pm.
If you choose a C&K centre the fees are much cheaper I think!
As for what to look for in a centre, well maybe just visit a couple - you want a well-resourced centre with lovely caring attentive teachers.
I didn't go searching for one, I just went to the one closest to us that had a vacancy (spaces can fill up very quickly - I know of a centre nearby that you have to line up OVERNIGHT to get a place! Seems totally ridiculous to me, but people do it!)
The teachers are lovely, and DD is loving it! All the best :)
