Help with feed info
Ds is currently feeding when he wakes up at 6:30 then he has a bottle a 9:00 then again at 11 then 2:15... then last feed at 5 before bed.
He has slept from 6pm to 615 am since 5 weeks.
I am just wondering if anyone can relate as he just seems super hungry. I am going to start him on rice cereal soon to replace that 9 am feed but just not sure when at this point.
I just feel bad as he just seems super hungry. He is on SMA formula and his bottles are 200 ml.
Any different outlooks on how many bottle ect... would be fab. Yes, I am aware that solids are "suggested" at 4 months and not 3 like ds but he can hold his head up and sits in a bumbo fine. : )
Thanks

Solids are recommended at 6 months by most Australian guidelines. The allergy council is now suggesting beginning between 4 and 6 months (purely based on allergy reasons) but definitely not before 4. I don't agree with introducing solids soon and definitely not as a replacement of a milk feed at this age but obviously it isn't my choice, I would suggest looking into all the advice and reasons why they are as they are first though.
If he seems hungry could you offer more bottles or more per bottle?

I'd be looking at getting another feed in there somewhere instead of replacing the 9am feed with farex. He is really too young to have milk feeds replaced with solids yet - by all means if you want to start him on solids I'm not going to convince you not to, but nutritionally he is far better off keeping all the milk feeds and then adding extra where you can. When you think about it, most other babies are still waking through the night for a feed and he is going an awfully long time between feeds at night, so it's no wonder he seems extra hungry through the day - at his age he still ideally needs to be having a minimum of 6 milk feeds per day and he is only getting 5.

See the midwife told me 5 is fine but individual to each baby and even suggested the farex and a few oldies along the way. LOVE LOVE LOVE getting confused. It is fabulous. I have read heaps and weighed/ out weighed research but am also big at looking at who has funded the research, so think I will just need to go with the gut, which is confused as well!!
It even says on his formula can 5 feeds a day. Arrrggggg. Thanks so much for your replies. Think this will be confusing me even more. He is 3 months old now and I wonder if maybe I should just do 3 hour feeds or something. DD was the same in the sleeping area but feed every four hours. Okay so maybe three hour feeds.. so keep doing what I am doing?!?!

Oh by the way, at the end of the 200 ml he is truly done so not sure if increasing would do it?

If you think he is done after a feed that big, why not try giving him the next one a little bit earlier? Over the course of a day you might find you can sneak an extra bottle in with no trouble at all. And I've fed 4 kids on formula and not one of them had what the can said they should have ;)

Thanks Trillian, going to give that a try today. : )
