Ideas to get 18 month old out of the house in winter

Hello,

Going home with our newborn today. Exciting!

DH is keen to give me some respite as much as possible over the next few weeks while he is on paternity leave. He wants to be able to take our 18 month old cheeky monkey out and about.

Obviously it's really cold at the moment. Also being in Melbourne it's also wet.

Our ideas for excursions so far are:
- play centers
- library / rhyme time
- park when not wet
- aquarium
- science works
- cousins house

Any other thoughts? We are in Melbourne for anything city specific.

I was going to suggest most of these too, what about visits to grandparents, playgroup - can they maybe have 'shed time' or something where their not really out of the house but their not in your way IYKWIM.

Great ideas! Trip to the shopping centre maybe too - if it is raining. I know some shopping centres up here have little indoor playground areas. Plus a babychino always makes for fun!

If you are near a beach it's great for winter too, we rig up and go build sand castles or look for shells.

Museum
Kidzmania is great play centre with good area for smaller kids
Aquarium
Werribee zoo is good as on safari bus

We sometimes just go to toy departments and look at toys. The museum has a great indoor play area too. Congrats on the baby and enjoy having dh home.

There are a couple of websites around that list things to do for lilttle ones in the city and surrounds.

If not wet DD loves just walking round southbank there are lots of ramps, little concrete things to walk along, that big red step thing, boats to see and can easily stop for baby chino is not near cars and unless you have a real runner is quite easy to let them walk fairly freely. Tram and train rides are also normally well received.

What about the Eureka Skydeck, it's awesome!

swimming (not classes, just a splash around)
kindergym (we can just rock up casually to our local one but not sure if that's generally the case)

and yes, indoor play centres are good.

DD1 used to enjoy just a simple tram/train ride if you're close to public transport.
