Angelcare with sensor pads went off 3 times last night, what's your experience?

I bought the Angelcare monitor with sensor pads to monitor breathing because my brother had severe sleep apnoea as a baby and I wanted the extra peace of mind from having the sensors. Anyway dd has just started sleeping in her own room, last night was about night 5 on her own. The alarm to say she had stopped breathing went off three times in a row and I ended up poking her, woke her up and then co slept for the rest of the night. Just wondering what your experience is with this machine? Have you had false alarms? I'm a little concerned now. She hadn't moved from where I had put her to bed and this happened about 4.5hrs after she went to bed.

i have had false alarms before. I would check the sensitivity of the machine.. It is is to high it might give out a false reading..

If it happens again tonight turn the light on first and check her colour of her face.. If it is all normal then it is a false reading and just the machine.. so best way is to test it during the day

have you got a ceiling fan in the room? if so turn it on and adjust the sensitivity then turn the fan off and it should alarm.. hope that makes sense

It's scary when it goes off, I'm glad it was only a false alarm. I have one of these monitors. When DS was a few days old it started going off ALL the time. They ended up replacing the unit for us & it didn't go off for months. These days we still have the odd false alarm. Usually it's because the mats have slid & they're not completely flat, DH has fiddled with the sensitivity, DS is in a really deep sleep etc. I have had it go off right in front of me as I'm readying him for bed in his cot too, so I guess sometimes it just happens :dunno:

I've used one for all 3 of my kids. The only time I had false alarms is when they are a bit bigger and they decide to sleep right up in one corner of the cot and the pads could no longer pick them up. It just meant I needed to adjust where the pads were lying.

Hmmm maybe I should get dd checked out, she was in there for 4 nights with no worries, so not sure why it went off last night 3 times. There was no fan or anything on to cause interference. I'll see how it goes tonight. Maybe the sensitivity needs to be altered. Thanks ladies xx

We haven't had any false alarms with ours and have been using it since DD was 10 weeks old. We have the model with the two sensor pads. The only times it's gone off is when we've taken her out of the cot and forgot to turn it off :lol:

They are extremely sensitive though so like the PP said, test it. A fan works well, we found that out the hard way - our fan was blowing on DDs valance so the monitor detected movement :o Yes, they are very sensitive. We took off her valance and stopped using a fan (or pointed it away from the cot) for this reason.

There is a possibility the monitor did it's job for you, as scary as that thought is. Give it a good test run using a fan and adjust the sensitivity and hopefully you'll have a better night tonight.

Babyluv - what ended up happening with this? Your experience shounds a little similar to mine - my DS sets it off once a week or so and gives me a heart attack. We also get the beep that it is about to go off regularly. I'm thinking he's just a super light breather at times or actually does stop breathing and start again. We also have no problems most of the time and use it day and night so I don't think it's a monitor fault?

I'm pretty sure it was to do with the sensitivity. At the back of the baby unit I have the dial set in between 2&3. I think it was possibly set off by the heater and a few times I watched her and she would hold her breath for a little longer than I thought she should but once we adjusted the sensitivity we've had no more probs.
