mouth splint for grinding teeth... makes my teeth hurt

i have just FINALLY been able to get a mouth splint as i grind my teeth. the dentist said to just put it in my mouth for 10-15 mins each day for a fortnight to get used to it before using it overnight. when i do the 10-15mins it is fine, but when i take it out my two front teeth really hurt. its as if it is too tight or something but it only hurts when it comes off. my two front teeth have been pretty badly affected by the grinding and are quite thin, i am wondeirng if that has something to do with it.

i am worried about how sore they are going to be after a whole nights use! should i go back to the dentist or is this a normal adjustment thing?

I remember mine were a little bit sore the first few times but I just started wearing it overnight, never had an adjustment period. Maybe get the dentist to check jic.

I'd check with your dentist. Was the splint made with an impression of your teeth, or was it an "off the shelf" one. If it's the latter, you may need a different size.

it was made with an impression of my teeth. so it should fit properly. is it something that will loosen up slightly over time like a pair of leather shoes? LOL

It won't loosen up, it will fall out if it did so they need to be firm but you shouldn't feel pain.

I have one for my teeth but I have NEVER been able to sleep with it in ... it hurts is uncomfortable and saliva ... don't get me started ..

I know its ment to help but its not going to help if I cannot sleep. I have chosen not to wear iteven though I know my teeth will get worse.

If you find a solution that does not require massive doses of alcohol before bedtime let me know :rofl:

Just wanted to let you know that I told my dentist about it hurting and he was able to use his little drill and grind some of it away in the painful areas. This has helped a lot. If I knew this was an option I wouldn't have waited so long to tell him about it! Had to go back a few times for adjustment.
