Husband concerned about my possible pregnancy weight gain

Hi all i am not sure where to ask this ( so moderators feel free to move it ) I have a question. DH and I have been thinking about having a second child I am booked in to the docs in 2 weeks to get the implanon removed, But DH has turned to me and told me that he is concerned about my weight, I am 74.2 kg at 5ft 2 inch high. He doesnt want me getting bigger after a second child. does any one find that they did put more weight on with a second pregnancy????? and should i lose some weight before falling pregnant?

I put on less weight with my second pg, a little more with my third. I am a healthy weight, about 5ft5in and around 70kgs. Doesn't sound to me like you are an unhealthy weight! Is your DH concerned about your health or your appearance?

If my DH expressed a negative opinion about my weight I would kick him in the shins!! No chance of another pg as there's no way he'd be getting any sex...

I have put on about five kilos more with my second pregnancy, and I was actually a few kilos lighter at the beginning than I was with my first preg. But my extra weight is from being a stay at home mum with a frustrating toddler and "medicating" myself with chocolate whereas with the first preg I was at work and far less stressed!

From a health point of view if you are unhealthy (but it doesnt sound like you are) now then maybe losing a little bit of weight before getting pregnant might make things easier and may avoid complications, but I agree with Nickle if it's from an appearance POV kick him in the shins!

I have actually lost weight during this pregnancy and am down to a weight lower than I started with DD. I'd slap hubby if he said that to me though all things considered we didn't have any luck conceiving before I got down a few kilos anyway (could have also been a coincidence).
Tell him not to be so rude!

thanks gals, i did feel a little on the rejected and offended side when he said that to me but I didnt know what to think of it, i thought it was because he knows i have massive insecurity problems with my body and was just bing caring in a way so i didnt get more insecure after a 2nd child

Your weight is fine. The best way for your DH to make you feel better about your weight is to tell you that you are perfect and you dont need to change a thing. I mean.... has him telling you that made you feel any better about yourself? Good luck with everything.

You could always consult with a dietitian throughout your pregnancy as a way of controlling any unwanted weight gain but also staying healthy, particularly if you are insecure and need the reassurance that you are a healthy weight. (And if your DH needs reassurance too.)

I'm 5 2 (almost) and if I was 72kg I think I would feel overweight. More importantly than losing weight you should focus on being fit and healthy. Do you feel strong, can you run if you need to, do you get enough exercise and eat healthy food most of the time?
If the answer is yes to all of them then tell your DH to take a hike but if you think that you should be fitter then maybe look at some small changes to increase your fitness.

I have no idea if you're overweight or not, but after the baby, do you want to weigh less than you do now? I'm just thinking, as far as I know, the longer you stay a certain weight, the harder it can be to get below it. So for example, if you wanted to be 70kg (or whatever), I'd suggest get there first, and then fall pregnant, and then you have less work to do down the track.

I guess, in a perfect world, we'd all be fit and healthy before falling pregnant, to make the pregnancy easier on ourselves and also to minimise the risk of things like gestational diabetes and blood pressure or vitamin deficiency issues. Snacks has a good idea though - you could always check with a doctor/ob/dietitian to see what they'd recommend. All the best, whatever you decide.

I put on half the weight the second time round. 22kgs the first time and 10kgs the second pg. Everyone is different. Chasing around after a toddler while pg definitely not gain as much weight and i was way more food conscious.

I am 5' exactly and weighed 74kg after having DS1 I put on 15kg and kept 10 of them. I have PCOS so found shedding the kilos hard. After having DS2 I weighed in at the same weight of 74kg. I didn't gain weight like I did with DS1 I actually in the first 4 months lost weight and ended up at 62kg (pre-pregnancy weight) due to not having a taste for food and also taking metformin. After changing the dosage I steadily gained. I have to say I did find it hard this time around towards the end of the pregnancy and my blood pressure played up. I couldn't play with DS1 the TV became a babysitter or he would have an extra day at day-care as I couldn't get down and had pelvic instability towards the end. I was left with high blood pressure after having DS2 and I am putting in a lot of effort to loose the weight now 6kgs down and my blood pressure is back to normal.

Only you will know what is right for you and your body x

I am 5'4" and was 73kg pre-preg and felt a little overweight. During the pregnancy, I maintained my weight until around 7 months when I went up to 76kg ... I'm now around 75kg and am working to get back to 70kg then to 65kg. I also had pelvic instability during the pregnancy and although I didn't put on weight, I lost fitness. First pregnancy I didn't actually put on any weight and I didn't have the pelvic instability and maintained my fitness. As Onyx said, it's what you feel. I have friends the same height as me who are very comfortable at the same weight as I.

Pretty much what everyone else said! I am 5'1 so a bit shorter and post DS was 70kgs which was the biggest I had been (I hit 80kgs in pregnancy and that was a 20kg weight gain for me) and I felt too big for ME. I would have wanted to lose weight if we had contemplated having a 3rd but again it depends how you feel and if you feel fit and healthy. My healthy weight for me at this height is nearer to 60kgs which I am now, although I haven't been exercising so I don't feel fit and healthy ITMS even though I am around 63 kgs. Good luck with it and as others said it is only you who can decide but being fitter and healthier - without a focus on weight can only be a good thing (not saying you aren't!)

I put on a different amount of weight with each baby BUT got to the same weight each time. So put on 27kg the first time, 20kg the second time, 22kg the third time but always capped out at 75kg.
