FB couple asking for "donations" to fund their wedding...

I have a business page on FB, I get many, many, many emails and inboxes from people asking for donations to this and that, I try to help out if/when I can.
Today a page posted their link on my wall, its called "*****&******are getting married!" asking me if I could help out in any way.
So I went to the page to have a look...well this couple are basically just asking anyone and everyone for donations or "crazy discounts" to help with their wedding.
Now don't get me wrong, good luck to them, it looks like they already have
*a dress
*a cake
*flowers
*jewellery and more...

I'm sure some people would see it and thing "dang, now why didnt I think of that!"
But for me personally I just feel this is wrong on so,so, many levels.
I have chosen not to "like" their page or donate...
Just wondering what everyone elses thoughts are on this..

*There is no sickness, one of them isn't about to die, they dont have 20 children or have suffered some incredible hardship.

Mmm interesting. Not sure I would donate unless it was family or something and seems a big odd, but then again, our family in Canada had a thing called a "social" it was held a few weeks before their wedding and is a big party basically but they make money on the whole night. You buy tickets to go, - you buy little tickets as you go in to get alcohol, and they had an auction etc. It was a fun party but was basically a fundraiser for the wedding, and they raised quite alot of money. Seemed kind of weird to us, because there were people there that they didn't really know and had just heard there was a party on but was still an awesome night. I am also European and at our wedding we had a thing where you "pay to dance with the bride " embarrassing much...kinda like the Greek pin the note on the dress. Anyway not sure I can say - oh that is terrible when I have done similar things myself but still seems way out there!

Yep ......... BB wouldn't allow me to post my true thoughts as without explicts it doesn't say what I really think of them. Still considering my "My veranda is literally falling off the house help me raise $50k to replace it" page :rofl:

Peeves me no end when people take advantage of others good natures like this. Shame the page cannot be reported and pulled down!

Tanster - Cultural things like this are NOT the same thing or even remotely close ... this couple are just sponging off others. They have been together for 8 years at least 4 of those years in their 20's. They have had enough time to pull their acts together and start saving!

See I can kinda understand the publicity thing, but this is just FB! not on TV, not a "great cause" etc, etc, just two people trying to get things for their wedding! LOL, their page only has 60 something likes! thats not much publicity..

Pair of scabs, is all I can say! As previously stated, cultural tradition =/= spongers out for a free ride when they've had ample opportunity to save up, or, God forbid, go to the bank and get a loan to cover the costs like everyone else does! I can understand why small businesses are donating goods, they probably assume this will hit the media (and I can almost guarantee it will, this is exactly the type of opinion-splitting situation that makes for awesome viral news) and that their businesses will get publicity boosts from it... but still. How sad! I had a courthouse wedding and family-only reception dinner because that's all DH and I could afford, we have no regrets and have put all our effort into making the MARRIAGE work, not just the wedding day. Grow up, ****** and *****, and pay your own way like the rest of us!

Geez, I don't even have the guts to ask *family* for a little money towards Ianto's headstone - something a touch more important than a wedding, in my eyes - and they want it for a wedding? :shakehead:

We had a big fluffy wedding, horse and carriage, etc., and that was on a quite small budget. Know how we did it? We shopped around, did a lot of stuff ourselves (my hands still hurt from the placecards :lol:) and called in favours. We had backup plans for if things fell through - Scott ended up arriving in my brother's car and not the limo we originally wanted - and we were flexible.

Best wedding ever.

I am really surprised that they think it is ok...not something I could do and when I got married I had 6 kids, one who had just got out of hospital after 3mths...we still managed to save and have a really nice small wedding. We did a lot ourselves too.

It really doesn't take much.

oh my, i am friends with a page called mummy to mummy and on their a couple asked for people to help by sending them stuff for their wedding, i replied saying how rude are you to be asking people to be sending you stuff when a wedding should be at your OWN cost

i myself and my DF have been together for over 8yrs (almost 9) and have only JUST (on christmas day) got engaged cause we could never afford an engagement ring and he finally was able too and now we are still waiting till next year to get married quite possibly the year after with having another baby on the way

I think it is rude and not something I would do myself. But if people want to donate, good luck to them, I certainly wouldn't

Yep I saw it :rolleyes: our wedding was very small and we paid for it ourselves. Help would've been nice of course but we weren't about to beg strangers for it! My dress came from Myers and we drove in our car together.

Seems to be a few on FB, one complete with swearing in it's info :rolleyes: I think quite tasteless, but maybe one day it will become the norm (I hope not). It was once seen unacceptable to have a wishing well, but now they are seen as ok (mostly, I know some people really don't like them)

I've seen a few pages like this on FB too. One couple asking for money donations towards getting a bigger car for all their kids, another couple wanting 600,000 likers and each of them to donate $1 so they could buy a house. I just choose to ignore them. Actually, I'm getting sick of people asking me for donations on my business page...

While I think it is a bit tasteless to start a group like this, there is no harm in it. I am more amazed it actually worked for them.

I don't think they should be posting to other businesses walls though - that is taking it a bit far.

DH is Chinese and for our wedding we received Ang Pow (money) in Red Envelopes.
we ended up paying for the honeymoon too haha
