Genital Warts

Yesterday I went to a doctor (not my usual one) about some bumps I have and she told me they are genital warts. I don't understand how this is possible, I've only ever had one sexual partner and he's only had 2 previous partners. We've both been tested for STDs, I've had the cervical cancer injection (which apparently helps prevent warts) and I've never had an abnormal pap smear. Apart from DH the only people that have had contact with down there are the doctors giving me pap tests or delivering my babies and my beauty therapist when she does my brazilian.

I'm worried about maybe giving it to my DD when she was born and if I didn't get it from DH I'm worried about giving it to him as well. I'm worried about what it means for my sex life, cervical cancer in the future and conception/pregnancy/delivery of any future babies (I'm meant to be TTC at the moment). I'm also worried about the treatment the doctor prescribed, I told the doctor I'm still B/F but when I googled the prescription it said that the paint is not B/Fing friendly.

I'm freaking out, how can this be happening.

Cervical Cancer Vaccine DOES NOT prevent warts... HPV have over 100 types the vaccine covers I think 4 of these (the most common ones)

You should go back to your Dr and get another STD check, and ask the questions that your worried about xoxox Also get your Partner to get tested as well...

With the medication check with your pharmacy about the safe use in breastfeeding

I went to another doctor today, I didn't tell him about the other doctor or her diagnosis. I explained my symptoms, let him do an examination and take samples for testing. But he told me that he thinks it's just cysts. I'm still a little worried about which diagnosis is right but I'm leaning towards the doctor today (hopefully) as I have cysts on my shoulder and on my scalp as well and I can't think how I could have possible gotten/been exposed to, warts. At very least the test result should shed some light on things.

Condoms are not 100% either

HPV which is the virus that causes warts is extremely common even in people who have not had multiple sexual partners. Once you have been exposed to the virus it can take many years to develop warts and alot of people never do get them although they will remain a carrier and still be at risk of cervical cancer. It is very possible you have been exposed to the virus from your husband years ago and only just developed them now or recently. Unless you have a specific test (which is not offered to 99.9% of people) the only way to diagnose it is from either an abnormal pap smear or clinical signs (say viewing the warts) By no means am I saying this is what they are but just what I know about them. Having an abnormal pap smear almost always means you carry the virus and even if you have the virus it does not neccessarily mean you will ever have an abnormal pap smear or develop warts.

As a midwife it become evident early in my training how incredibly common genital warts are. Many women don't know either as they can be inside and by no way effect your sex life or ability to birth/get pregnant. The greatest risk for women is the chance of the virus causing cervical cancer. This usually does not happen for along time after having the virus (like 20plus years) but if you know you do its probably best to have a paptest every year instead of two. Genital warts are usually multiple so there will be more then one but sometimes only 2-3. They are soft like normal tissue/skin and often described as finger like. They generally do not take on the cauliflower appearance like you would see a wart on another part of the body. The most common area you will see them is in the entrance of the vagina and slightly inside.

Your daughter wouldn't be at risk from her birth and if it is HPV I'm sure your husband would already be a carrier. Men do not get the warts at the rate women.

Just a thought you say you have them on your shoulder and head is it possible it could be molluscum? Have a google. I caught molluscum from the local swimming pool, had to get them pin *****ed by the doc and they cleared up, they were at the back of my knee, a cluster of red spots with a little white head. They were there for a few months. Have you been in a swimming pool? Or shared a towel with someone? It's good you got a 2nd opinion. Good luck xx

I survive the genital warts last year. Thanks to the help of my regular check-up to the doctor and the consistent apply of medical product Wartscide. I'm worried before because i've heard that there's no cure for genital warts. Thank God! There's a lot of treatment products nowadays that can used/applied on curing permanently the genital warts. the best thing that you can do first when you discovered you have genital warts is to consult a doctor.
