Cystocele? (possibly TMI)

What a way to introduce oneself to the forum, but anyway here goes.

I would love to know if anyone else has experience this? I suspect I may have a cystocele and/or rectocele. I have had a heavy sort of feeling in my pelvis, difficulty urinating (often have to sit on the loo for ages before I can pass anything) and several weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night with excruciating pain in my abdomen. It felt like period pain, but much much worse. Thankfully it only lasted a couple of minutes because I'm not sure I would have been able to bear it much longer.

I have had a look 'down there' and when I squat above a mirror, I can see two large fleshy pink lumps just inside my vagina. OH has had a look and agrees that it's definitely not normal! He has been really understanding but as you might imagine I am feeling pretty mortified about it all.

Now here's the weird part (well to me anyway), I am only 25 and have never been pregnant. I thought this was something that happens to old(er) people, or as a side-effect of pregnancy/childbirth?! Admittedly I am overweight, and I have recently started a new job that involves a lot of heavy repetitive lifting. I am booked in to see my GP, but I am just feeling really down in the dumps about the whole thing :(

Welcome to the forum. Definitely see your GP as you want to be sure there are no other causes, but if it does turn out to cystocele or rectocele, don't panic. There are lots of measures that can be taken. It may take a referral to see a physio specialising in women's issues, as there are exercises and many other things you can do to improve your pelvic floor.
