Does the Royal Childrens have an ER?

I'm considering heading down with DS. He has been so unsettled lately and it's getting worse. He just screams. I can't get him to drink many bottles. If I can get him to drink half a bottle I'm doing well.
He just screams this blood curdling scream and just works himself up.
He is on meds for reflux but he either doesn't have it or it's useless.
He arches his back and goes stiff and bright red in the face and screams for hrs, nothing I do helps. He is on drops for wind.
I'm really running on empty as he is like this day and night and I NEED AN ANSWER...

Yes sorry the one in Melbourne. We live 2 hrs away but I can't think of anything else to do! Our local hossy is hopeless.

Go to RCH. They have a big waiting line, the ER is always packed.

It the first entrance when you turn onto Gatehouse street. There's no parking in there tho, so unless you can be dropped off you'll have to go to the second entrance on Gatehouse street and find some parking.

Yes they do. But be prepared to wait. Maybe ring them before you leave and let them know you are coming?

Even if you ring they might be able to get you an appointment. When i was having simular issues with DD, we got an appointment within 24 hours.

Did you need a referral MM?

Thinking back (feels like forever ago) but I think I did. Theres that clinic in Wyndam street that is open today, you could pop in there and get one? Nixon street clinic :)

How old is your little one? They see babies under a certain age quicker. Where are you coming from? There may be another hospital that accepts children on your way.

He is 4 months old.

We are coming from Shepparton.

With young babies they will try and see you faster. They also have an after hours GP clinic that works in conjunction with the emergency ward which can get you seen by a doctor faster. On 2 occasions we have seen GPs at RCH after hours and been taken straight through to the Emergency ward as the GP has realized that we were a true emergency situation. I think it can be difficult sometimes for the triage nurses to get a true idea of how urgent your situation is which is why seeing a GP first can sort of fast track your case.

Aurora has been arching and doing the red face thing too, but it only lasts a few minutes, 10 at the most... I can't imagine how you must be feeling it it going for hours :(

You are probably there by now...Sunshine Hospital Paediatric section is connected to RCH, that may have been closer to you coming from Shep. A GF recently went to Sunshine with her 5yr old and she said they were brilliant and the Nurses were wearing RCH badges.
We are advised here in the West to go to Sunshine as the RCH has a long wait.

The Northern Hospital at Epping also has an Emergency Dept and i have heard they always get kids looked at quite quickly. I have only been there once, and we were quickly seen in Triage and then (because my DDs condition was only minor) they suggested we go next door to the bulkbill after hours clinic.
