Hello,
My little brother is coming home from London for his 30th birthday. It would be easier to have a dinner at my place to celebrate with the two kids.
To make it a bit special I am thinking of hiring a private chef to cook for us.
Has anyone done something like this or been to a function with a chef? I'd be interested to hear about your experience. Any idea on cost would also be good.

A chef friend of mine used to do this - I can ask her what she used to charge and any tips - but it was quite a few years ago...... I'll see her Monday and ask.

I would google private chef, chefs at home or something similar.. I would have a guess that most would charge per person and it would be around $100 and up for each guest. Fairly pricey but most will do three or more courses, that price would include the food, prep time, cooking time, and cleaning up, etc..

From what google has turned up so far I'm looking at around $150 per head. It's in Oct so I have some time to keep looking.
Try looking at G'Day Chef. We gave my Dad & his wife a voucher and the chef come ot their house & cooked for them & they said it was good. Can't remember the cost though
I've been to a few dinner parties where they've had private chefs. It is a great idea.
One of my girlfriends always has a chef and wait staff for all her parties, for simple get-togethers she just has wait staff, they clean up as they go along and leave the place tidy, only stuff she has to worry about is what mess is made after they leave.
For the chef it is probably per head dependant on how many people you are having, for wait staff (which I'd advise to have) it is a per-hour cost with a minimum amount of hours.
Hubby is a Chef.... interesting idea.... I think it sounds like a great idea for a birthday dinner :)
M2R, dh is a chef too, and for a while back we were thinking this would be a great way to boost our income, he chef, me waitress... But he decided otherwise.. Thank goodness..:

Would u be able to asks at your local Tafe if they had any apprentice chefs who would be interested. You would be helping them with some extra cash and helping them gain experience. They probably wouldnt charge as much either.
