My linen closest doesn't smell as such, it's a brand new wardrobe etc. however the doona covers, pillows, towels etc don't come out smelling very nice. I don't even know what it is - not musty just meh....
Has anyone got ideas of what I could put in there to make everything smell nice - I would prefer natural things like eucalyptus oil or something.
Maybe I could sew little rice bags filled with essential oils on them?!
Any ideas!
I use dried English lavender from my garden, in those cheap little organza bags from Spotlight.
It's better if it's the English lavender as that seems to have the most aromatics in it. I use them in the linen cupboard, in with our woollens and also lingerie. We've never had a problem with moths or anything, and after a while the lavender really permeates everything.
Some people make linen sprays using essential oils, or things like rosewater or orange blossom essence (from the Middle Eastern shop).
I would be super careful about wiping straight essential oils in there, as the oil may cause oily spots on the linen.
Thanks MD! I was more thinking I would make a few little bags to leave in there and hope the smell would go through, we have heaps of lavender in the garden- not sure what type it is but will have to check.
Actually I've got a few lavender sachets my friend made up too, just using a plain cotton, they're just as smelly as the other ones so making your own is a great idea. If you bring the lavender in, and dry it for a couple of weeks spread out in a warm place, or you could dry it quickly on loooooow temp in the oven. Then strip the flowers off and get rid of the sticky bits.:
