Uncertain morphology results

Hi

I have just had my morphology scan at 21.5 weeks. This is my third baby.

During the scan they told me they think there is something wrong with my baby's heart. I've been referred for an echo with a cardiology team which will happen sometime in the next two weeks. They didn't give much away about the severity of it, but did say that the baby's right ventricle is significantly smaller than it should be and there is also an atrial septal defect. I'm a nurse, so I know that these problems could be quite serious when the baby is born. It is fine for now because it is in my tum, but when it needs to breathe alone it could be a different story.

I don't really know why I 'm posting. I guess I'm just scared. Everything else in the pregnancy is fine and my previous pregnancies have been pretty straight forward, so this is a bit of a shock. I just hate not knowing. My mind is going through all the awful what ifs. Which is silly until I have more info really but its hard to put out of my mind.

If anyone has been trough something similar I'd love to know how you coped.

When I had my 20 week morphology scan I got told that 'I can't get the right pictures, but you need to see your OB asap'.

I knew there was a problem, basically DD's bowels were outside of her body. The whole story is the link in my signature.

It took 2 weeks to get refered onto a specialist, which was the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne.
Those 2 weeks were murder, and unfortunately, things got worse once I got to Melbourne. DD is perfect little girl now, tho.

I wish I could say something to help, but I know how it is to have to wait, and be told that there's something wrong with bub. Especially a condition that could be life threatening. It sucks. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

Happygirl, that must be so scary. Not sure if this will make you feel better but I have ASD, my right ventricle is small and deformed just to name 2 of the 5 issues with my heart, and I'm very healthy with no lifestyle restrictions. I really hope your baby is ok and you have lots of support. :hug:

I am a Mumma to a 19 month old heartkid and 34 weeks pregnant with my second heartkid. My DD2 had open heart surgery at 6 days old to repair a VSD and coarctation of the aorta. My belly babe also has coarctation although they believe it is only mild and we are unsure if she will require surgery at birth or a little later, we have our last ultrasound next week before her birth in 3.5 weeks and I am hoping we may get a clearer answer in relation to surgery timing. My DD1 isn't a heartkid but she has a chromosome abnormaltiy and was in hopsital for 3 months and had jaw surgery at 9 weeks old to enable her to breath unassisted, although it is not a heart condition, it was possibly worse (in my eyes) believe it or not.

I am happy to answer an questions you may have. May I ask where-ish you are located?

I will also add that my DD2 is a happy, healthy little girl now, with no restrictions and hitting all milestones incredibly well, you wouldn't know there was ever anything wrong with her unless I mentioned it :D
