14 month old with mild conjunctivitis

Hi all,

My DS has a touch of conjunctivitis. He has slightly gunky eyes which are the worst when he wakes (crusty and goopy). I've been given some chlorsig dropa by the pharmacist. I spoke to my doc who said to use the drops and massage his tear ducts cos they might be blocked. I said to my doc ' I can barely get the eye drops in let alone massage his tear ducts!!'

Is there anything else I can be doing? It has cleared alot since last weekend, but hasn't gone completely. I'm using saline wash when cleaning his goopy bits from his eyes.

Poor darling, the Chlorsig should clear it up - it is hard to get it in though, I sometimes used a cotton ball with it on there and swiped it over their eyes and kind of squeezed it in. DD is ace - we will say "butterfly eyes" and she will just blink fast while we drop it in whereas DS will squeeze his eyes so tight you think they might permanently disappear! Good luck and fingers crossed it will clear up soon xoxox

Well he ended up going on antibiotics. The eyes just wouldn't clear. Looks like he also had an ear infection and was just fluey. The doc said that it was easy for little ones to get eye infections if they were already sick cos the bacteria doesn't have far to travel from his nose/throat. We're on the mend now :)

I find when it is just starting that washing their eyes (just a swipe with clean cotton wool) in cooled chammomile tea works a treat... sometimes prevents using cholorsig. And breastmilk when I am BF
