Please help...love for cloth is waning

Hi I am so frustrated with my cloth nappies. Please tell me what I am doing wrong!!

OK I use wonderoos pockets and motherease with a wrap. I stopped using the wonderoos because they were stinking to high heaven and leaking once I put the toddler booster in (tried taking the booster out as I thought they might not fit him properly but they still leaked and still stank as soon as he weed once) I strip washed them many times with vinegar, bicarb just water etc etc. Stopped using detergent and only used eco balls. Even with all this experimentation, stinky leaky nappies.

So I started using motherease one size and sandies exclusively. Never used detergent (only eco balls or bicarb) and now they are stinking. They don't leak but they stink!

So my questions are
Are they stinking because without detergent they are just not clean?

OR

Am I strip washing correctly?

I am so over it because all my cloth friends here have no problems with their cloth nappies!!

Have you tried rocking green detergent? You can get it in the uk.... I got mine through the itti bitti uk website.

Do you use a hot wash too, and hang them outside?

Not sure what else to suggest... I'm sure others will chime in and help.

My best suggestion would be to hang them outside in the sun.

I either use eco powder, or nothing with my nappies & haven't had a problem with smell. Maybe its what the nappies are made from? I know hemp smells different to bamboo when a nappy is full. Microfibre smells different again. I prefer bamboo for that reason. But they all smell with a full nappy! Rolling over to DD in the mornings isn't pretty sometimes :lol:

I strip wash in hot water with a couple drops of eco dish washing liquid.
You can also soak all your boosters for a few hours. Boosters only though.
And sun. Lots of it... (dunno how that'll go for you over there :lol:)

With the leaks, if none of that works, is it possible bub has changed shape a bit? I've had about a month being lazy & using sposies & now I'm back to cloth some aren't fitting as well as they were & we're getting leaks.

I have just started using hemp BBH multifits and they are a bit whiffy. But that's all I could afford really, I have flats as well, they are good too. Both the hemp MCN's and bamboo flats dry quickly, it helps I'm in Brisbane but I am drying them on a balcony.

When I strip wash I use a hot rinse, then a hot wash using a tiny tiny bit of dishwashing detergent, then two more rinses. Then outside in the sun. I know this time of year isn't great for sun for you guys, but an airer near a window will do similar.
Sometimes if they are really average I repeat this process once they are dry.
I am not a fan of Rocking Green at all (but we have really hard water here, even using their hard water version), but I know lots are.
Cosistent use of a dryer will make any nappy stink.

What is the insert of the Wonderoos made out of?
I found my microfibre inserts sometimes just stink after a time and nothing I can do stops it.
Though saying that I have stopped using my bamboo BBHs fitteds cos DS just outwees the double booster in a heartbeat...must get around to selling them.

Sandy's are awesome :D My nappies get a bit smelly sometimes, regardless of how recent a strip wash was. I can't really work out why. I can't pin it down to a particular detergent, as I change pretty often. I'm really cautious about not using too much detergent, and I think sometimes I actually don't use enough. If you use none, I think a 40 degree warm wash is the best.

Time in the sun definitely helps. A lot. If no sun, then even just fresh air is really good.

Strip washing: one drop of dishwashing liquid or hand soap in a hot (60 degree) wash. Then rinse, and rinse, and rinse, until all the suds are gone.

Thanks guys! I will try all your advice! I am going back to the Sandys. Just need another wrap because we always seem to run out which makes them inconvenient but apart from that I love them.

What size? I have some size 2s that we're not using. $2 each work for you?
