Help from Mums who's Toddler has food allergy

I am desparate to find out what rash my toddler is getting on and off. It seems to be getting more frequent and he is getting more and more spots each time. (I think it may be tuna or weetbix causing it?) My apt with the dermatologist is still 6 weeks away.:doh: I feel i need some advice now as it is worrying me quite a bit. :(
Would any one be kind enough to let me email a photo of his rash (on his back), for your opinion as to weather or not it looks like allergy spots?
I am guessing that those of you who have bubs with food allergy would have a rough idea of what an allergy rash looks like.

Hi Ally, My son has allergies to egg, nuts and wheat. He used to get rashes more so when he was younger and I think it was probably the wheat allergy playing up. Feel free to email me a photo. my email is relle.watkins@bigpond.com

I think it is a possiblity that it could be eczema. But I think eczema is also tied up with allergies also? It does seem to be worse since the cold weather has set in, and you are right it wasnt half as bad during the summer Months.
I did notice this morning, that after he had his weet bix, he had a wheezing noise to his breathing. So it may even be that? I should get to the bottom of it one day!!

Girls excema and food allergies and ashtma go hand in hand - Do you have any family members with any type of allergy, even just sinus/hayfever problems? As if you do I think the percentage of bubs getting some form of allergy is something like 80%.

Matthew has had excema since he was about 4.5months of age, he was still being breastfeed exclusively at the time, I suffer from excema myself so it wasn`t a surprise that he`d get it also, my Mum has so many allergies it`s not funny.

About 6 weeks ago I gave Matthew some homemade custard within minutes he went into a severe allergic reaction, swollen face, lips, eye (only open a tiny little bit), hives, wheezy breathing, got to hospital he started vomiting.

We have since seen an allergy specialist who did the skin test, he`s severely allergic to egg, both the yolk and white, slightly allergic to mould, dustmites, wheat, chicken.

It is certainly a worry but it is a good thing your going to see a dermatologist - perhaps you can ring up and try to get an earlier appointment, I only had to wait 3 weeks for Matthew to be seen to, we now have Epi Pen on hand (adrenaline) for next time, I hope there will not be a next time as it`s certainly very scary.

With the excema it is always worse in winter then summer.

I probably haven`t been of much help, Ambah might also pop in as I`m sure I`ve missed out on heaps of info to give you, I`m blaming gastro and being 38.5 weeks pregnant :)

Yes, I have eczema, only very mild in very small patches mainly on my arms. DH suffers with bad hay fever. So I guess it is a possibility that he has some form of allergy. I am going back to the Docs to see if we can get him in to see a Allergy Specialist, as I dont think that his probs are really skin infections IYKWIM. Especially since his rashes come and go. I will be interested to see what the Skin Specialist says anyway...

Thanks Fletch. IKWYM about trying natural remedies first. I wash DS clothes, then give them 3 rinses of plain water. I dont put any soaps in his bath water, I have changed nappies to the Ecobots, and am now using chux wipes/water instead of baby wipes, as he has very sensitive skin. I have stopped giving him tuna, and when two weeks are up, and if he still gets it, I will stop the weet bix for a few weeks to see if it is that.
I dont know about you, but it drives me batty! I think the worst part is not knowing what it really is, or what is causing it. Keep in touch and let me know how you get on.

Fletch, I also tried the QV Oil and it made it worse! I will try the Seba Med. Is it specifically for Eczema? I guess you'd get it from the chemist?
DS LOVES yoghurt too, so i will give him that with fruit for Brekkie too.

Fletch, I am very confused. Is your DS getting it often? DS seems to have it every 2 days or so. It would be in one spot - say on his shoulder, then two days later, will be somewhere else like on his arms, whilst the ones on his shoulder have faded quite a bit. Then they will appear on his belly, then fade from his arms. - This is confusing to me! Is this a similar pattern to Zanes?

Yes, DS has mainly Spots rather than rash, and they do look like pimples??? Must say, this is what my excema looks like when i get it.

Fletch, sometimes i just put up with it!! However it does occasionally get bad on my legs, to the point where i scratch them til they bleed. I use RELIEF cream, it is natural and u can get it from the Chemist. That helps the itch, and gets rid of it quicker, but i cant use it on DS, as his skin seems to be really sensitive.
