In retaliation for my utterly cr@p Mother's Day complete with absence of any kind of gift I am giving DP exactly what he gave me!
I will make him breakfast in bed and get DD1 to make a card for him - nothing from DD2 and no gift. Then I will get him to look after the kids all day while I do something that I want to do. If I can only get it to rain for him the day will be perfect. I think that sounds fair? Any one else joining me?
I've been wondering the same thing. I had the WORST mothers day, but I'm torn between doing the same for him or making it the best day ever in the hope he will feel a little guilty and realise what he is MEANT to do for these special days. I'm probably being stupid expecting him to get the hint, but at least I could use it against him if next mothers day turns out as miserable as this year was.
When is it? You can always come have brunch with me if I'm here, or we can go wander around shops/museum etc :)
Nai, I reckon I remember reading about your Mother's Day, and if I were in your shoes I'd definitely make Father's Day a crappy one!
I'm not boycotting - we both have breakfast in bed every day anyway, and he got me Mother's Day gifts even though DD wasn't born yet.

I hate Mothers Day. Really hate it. So Fathers Day will not be a big deal here. Cooked brekkie and DDs first artwork oughtta do it.

Breakfast in bed and a card is a great prezzie its what I got on mothers day so also thinking of doing the same.
Hmmm I don't think two wrongs make a right, do you? Regardless of what he did or didn't do for you on Mothers' Day, I think you should be the 'better' person and if you think he's a wonderful father, then celebrate that with him on the day.
I don't expect anything on Mother's Day, but if I do get something, it's a bonus :D Our children are already our gifts. ;)
I'm going to do something up for DH for Father's Day because I think he's a wonderful father to our girls and deserves it.
I'm sure you're a great mum, you don't need a gift from anyone to prove that!
You are right, I don't need a gift but I definitely would like one :lol: I certainly would have liked to have done something nice on Mother's Day to have DP show that he appreciates everything I do rather than sit inside on a rainy day while he shut himself in the bedroom working on the computer.
But as you said, 2 wrongs don't make a right so I will do one right thing and maybe go shopping with Sopdet on Father's Day and buy DP and I both a gift while he looks after the girls (as I know how much he dislikes shopping).
Yep, I remember your mother's day Nai and I think you should give him exactly what he gave you. Tell him you got the impression he didn't think these days were very important.
I know they say actions speak louder than words, but I think words are important too.
I hope you have a wonderful day whatever you do, and I hope that he is able to see how important to you it is to listen to each others needs, and deliver. It sounds like you already do that, so I hope he can do that for you too :hug:

i hate the whole commercial aspect of both mother's day & father's day. but i do like the idea of getting together with family for lunch/dinner. although flowers are nice anytime:hide:
I've been doing this for years, I don't celebrate his birthday either because he always 'forgets' mine :rolleyes:
My DH will be spending the day looking after our 2 big girls as I will be in hospital after just having my CS so no breakfast in bed either! But I will get a gift, if only I could think of one.
I get it though I didn't get a gift this year either :(

Seriously, I had a pretty ****ty mothers day this year... But it's about the kids too, they don't understand why I would not celebrate for him... so he is getting the usual socks (he always asks for them) and I have an engraved leather/metal cuff (bracelet thing) coming from Etsy that has all the kids name on it ($30!) and we all had fun doing photos in the garden one arvo, so I will sort through them and get the best ones...
I don't like spending loads, the cards and wrapping paper are hand made, I object to the pressure of bigger and best... It's a family day first and foremost.

I know Professor is horrendous at doing stuff off his own bat - this year I got tired of the angst and made a huge wishlist on Amazon, and told him to go there and pick what he wanted to buy me. That way he knew I was getting what I wanted, but it was also a surprise because I didn't know which items from the list he was buying til they arrived.
Maybe you could try writing a list each as well - what he would like on Father's Day and what you would like on Mother's Day? I know that we feel they should just KNOW what to get us/do for us, but they just don't think like we do, they need some help :)
