My friend told me today that she left her boys home alone all night on Saturday. I'm surprised she did this, now she's worried because one of the boys rang his dad (the parents separated 6mths ago) and he has told her he'll go for full custody. She met a guy a few months ago and on most nights goes to his house when the boys go to bed and comes home around 4.00 a.m. I can just picture one of the boys waking up and mums not there, sad.

Isn't 14 the legal babysitting age? So she isn't really leaving them much earlier than is legal. I guess it depends on the kids and if they know she is gone or not because it would be scary to wake and find her missing but if they knew she was going it wouldn't be that bad.
Goodness, that sends a shudder through me. They are still very young.
Not something I would do, I won't even leave my 15 and 16 yr old home alone at night.
I would think that the kids safety is a little more important then some guy (and a bit of nookie).
That may sound a little judgemental and harsh but I do think 10 and 13 is far to young to be home all night alone.
Hi. I have a 13 year old and a 9 year old and would never leave them alone - what happened if there was a fire? Or someone broke in? My gosh it'd be all over the news......and I would worry that they're not ok. I hate leaving them home alone just to duck off to the shops tho...I am a bit of a worry wart, but I guess I have good reason - maybe they are better off with their dad, at least maybe temporarily.....poor boys :(
i agree - far too young to be left alone. especially for a booty call.

Not for all night by themselves - a couple of hours maybe, but not all night. Even when I started babysitting at about 14, it wasn't all night until I was about 16 or 17.
Not worth it for a bit of a shag imho.
That's crazy. I wouldn't be doing it! How far away is she going, and if that was my ex I would be going for full cystody as well so completely agree with the father on this one. Thats not even illegal at that age.

There's no way I'd be leaving them at that age all night and it sounds like it's happening alot. 4am is all night as far as I'm concerned. I'm 28 and can't sleep if I'm home alone. Anything could happen, someone might break in! It's just not safe.
Not on at all. That gives me the creeps. These days anything does or could happen. Too young!
In my opinion, that would count as child endangerment and should be reported to child welfare authorities (eg DoCS) I'm disgusted she is putting her own "needs" in front of the welfare of her children. Pretty selfish :(
I personally think they are too young to stay home alone all night.. A few hours is ok (maybe not at night depends on where you live)
I find it sad she goes to her BF place when the kids are asleep.. Thats sad and irresponsible
No way not at night at that age. Worries me, anything could happen. I'm scared when I'm alone at night!
Everyone else has summed up hopw I feel about this ... besides why can't her booty call come over AFTER her kids go to bed?

That's just not right. Even if it was OK from a safety perspective, it's not OK to send that message to kids - that they're less important than mummy's sex life. I just think that's sooooooooooo not on.
I really feel sad that a kid (no matter what age) could wake up and not find their parent at home, just not right!
At 13 I was babysitting my cousins (4 kids) until the wee hrs of the morning every Friday for my aunt but personally I couldn't do it, especially to go see my bf, why can't he come to her?
I can see why the dad would be annoyed, hmm what a horrible situation!

Her BF doesn't drive so she goes to him. She really regrets leaving them, I'm sure she won't do it again but only because her ex found out.
