FET with Fragmented Embies

FET with Fragmented Embies



Hi Ladies

Just wanting some info on FET with fragmented embies. We are heading back to FS in October to discuss FET in November all going well but I know that all of our embies were fragmented to some degree. I don't know what grades these embies are. I was too worried about ET at the time to bother asking lol.

Is it worth trying these embies? I mean they got to 5 days and were freezeable so they must be ok.

Thawing is another thing to think of too. Do fragmented embies thaw ok? I know there are great a+ embies that fail to thaw properly but do fragment ones have an even less chance?

Has anyone had success with fragmented embies? Or am I setting us up to fail before we have begun.

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

It's so hard to tell. You'd like to think that if they've frozen them, there must be a chance they can work. I've had a couple of 'perfect' embies that didn't survive the thaw, and a lot of perfect or next to perfect ones that just didn't take once transferred. The one that actually did wasn't fragmented, but it was pretty average compared to most of the others I'd had. If you don't want to go through multiple fet's, you could ask that they thaw a couple or all of them at once and that way they can pick out the 'best' one or two to put back.

With my last round I had two fet's, then decided to go with a fresh batch rather than try the remaining two I had frozen. They're still there, and i'd like to give them a chance, but my plan is to wait until my clinic will let me transfer 2 at once.

Thanks for your reply. You are so right. It is very hard to tell. I would like to think that they have a chance as well. I mean they made it to 5days and freezing so they must have some sort of fight in them.

I only have 4 frozen and your suggestion of thawing them all and choosing the better ones makes lots of sense. We had 2 put back last time and it resulted in DD2 and I'm thinking of putting 2 back so as to minic our DD2's cycle seeing as we had success with that cycle. But I've never done a FET I've only done a fresh transfer so just wanting some experiences and then choosing our best course of action.

Hard to know what will happen. I really need a crystal ball lol.

I would like to think that they only froze blastocysts of a decent quality. Each clinic has different protocols though. Our clinic only freezes grade A or B. The FET pregnancy rate is the same as fresh cycles in our clinic. Fragmentation in blastocysts shouldnt be too high if they decided to freeze them. It all depends on your clinic protocol. In our clinic we thaw the blastocyst with best grading first. Good luck with whatever you decide x

Thanks for your reply Mad Scientist. I'm not sure what grade they were to be honest. But I hope you are right and they only freeze the A & B grade ones. That would be terriffic and I can stop worrying. Not sure of the rates for fresh and frozen in our clinic. I've never had a FET as we were blessed with DD2 on our very first cycle. I still have a couple of months before we go there but nned to start thinking about it now.

I agree, they wouldn't freeze them unless they were good quality.

Why don't you ring them and find out the gradings? That way you can relax and look forward to it :) there are never any stupid questions and you are entitled to know the gradings x
