Recommend me a pram :)

Sooo I'm considering MAYBE getting a pram. Not for all the time use because I loooooove my carrier, but a couple of times I've found myself thinking 'geez a pram would be handy now'. I have no clue about brands etc, so please help me out :)

What I need in a pram:

Lightweight and foldable...I live on the third floor, so it would have to be relatively easy for me to carry downstairs.

Good for a newborn and am older baby/toddler.

I'm happy to buy secondhand...realistically I can only afford $200-$300.

Hit me with your pram suggestions ladies!

Are you going to be walking a lot with it hun? As in for exercise I guess or on unmade paths? If not I would totally get a Maclaren stroller - if its for footpath/shops walking. They are ace - I got mine for about 230 and you can get some that lie all the way back for newbies too.

I'd get a baby jogger city mini. I had the double version and even as a double it was still really light, really easy to push, brilliant big hood, and great for newborns through to 4 year olds.

Yeah just footpaths etc, no running etc lol!

PZ, I have a Maclaren Vogue and it's great (and light). It reclines almost flat and it has a decent hood on it. Some strollers have little hoods. And I also have to agree with the baby jogger city mini, if I had my time agin with a pram I would get it as the baby jogger city elite that I have is quite heavy and very wide at the bottom. The maclaren cost me $360, it is an awesome stroller.

I second that. All of my MG have these, and they seem quite good. When it comes time for baby #2, we'll be heading for the double.

I have a Peg Perego Pliko Pramette, which I looooove, it's my fold-up. I also have a walking pram, a big-arse all terrain, non-folding monster cargo pram, which we love (but would be no good for you!) and we also have the PPP. One hand fold, is bassinette-seat convertible, really compact. It's the one we take in the car or on public transport.

But most of the time we use a carrier.

Mclaren Vouge is great and can lie flat and be used from birth up. I use mine heaps (bought when DS1 was 6 months old).
Light, easy to fold and good quality worth the money!

I have a Maclaren too

FWIW mine is a Quest and lays partially back, JJ is nearly 3 and Iz 4 and I use it most days for both!

This post is right up my alley.

You'd want a stroller rather than a pram. Much easier to carry and fold. Also it will need to fully recline so it can be used for a newborn. Most come with a rain cover but it's worth checking.

Here are my thoughts.....

Silver Cross - Very nice brand and a bit cheaper than the Mclarens. Cool colours also. Probably a Silver Cross Pop Sport which new are around $269 or a Silver Cross Pop which new is $329
Mclaren - A Mcclaren Vogue is $399 new.
Mamas and Papas - A bit hard to find in Australia but their strollers are quite cheap and I love the colours.

I got bored so I looked online for you and found some newborn-friendly, great-looking strollers ;) Oh, and they're all under $200 on the Big W website - some have free postage for the next week or so.

i love my city mini (have both single and double) i have used so many prams over the last 7yrs and these are by far the best i have owned

Oh thanks guys! Stacks for me to check out, I didn't realise there were so many prams available that fit my needs! Will look into them all, ta :)

I sniped two Maclaren strollers on eBay, as I live up one lot of stairs.

The Maclaren Techno XT has full layback, I managed to get it for $120 second hand.

The other one I have is the Maclaren Triumph, I got for $80.

What happened is I got the Triumph first and then realised I needed one with full layback.

The one I was looking at new was the Steelcraft Phoenix.

The main thing I used to look at when looking at them, was the weight. I think the Techno XT is about 7kg and the Triumph 5kg.

while you are 'researching', check out the Op Shops near you, you can sometimes find a great pram there. You can take the material off (usually just with a phillips head screw driver) & wash it in the washing machine, wipe off the frame and they can look like new.

I have a Maclaren Vogue too - I have had it for 4.5yrs and it is awesome, has been thrown around with 2 kids and is still great. Agree with other who have suggested ebay/gumtree/opshops. I snagged mine at a Toys r us sale and it was half price as last years model so watch and wait for a bit if you can.
