Anti depressants/anxiety tablets

Ok, so I haven't been on them for years. But am considering asking my Dr for some to see if they help my symptoms. But here's the thing, and I don't want to sound super, super vain, but the last time I was on Amoxycillin, I gained 5kg in a couple of months, my gf's on other a/d's have had similar issues.

Does anyone know of a a/d that doesn't cause you to pile it on (if you are prone to that, if you're a skinny minnie and it doesn't affect you either way you probably don't know what I'm on about). Because I'd rather deal with the symptoms rather than put on weight as I am obsessed with it as it is and it will do more harm then good.

Zoloft doesn't make me gain weight, and I tend to gain weight on everything :) I think Zoloft is more of an anti-anxiety than an anti-depressant, if that makes sense.

I thought Amoxycillin was an antibiotic?

I don't think Lexapro or Pristiq cause weight gain, but prob best to chat to the dr about it

Maybe try St John's Wort instead?

It's not necessarily ADs that cause the weight gain, but that they increase appetite (to what should be normal as depression/anxiety often cause a decrease). On the other hand, I tend to eat more when I'm down so ADs (I've tried Zoloft and Effexor) don't really affect my weight.

Have you looked into natural therapies? St John's wort, fish oil etc. Then there's always making sure you eat well and get some exercise (not always easy when you're feeling lousy, I know).

No not at all, some AD's do literally cause weight gain, I don't agree.

I have photos of when I was on Aropax and I looked really puffy in an odd way, especially my face.

Sure did, Aropax/Paroxetine, something with an A & an X, That's my late night brain for you.

Keike - I might ask Dr about Zoloft if I talk myself into going. Didn't want to try it previously as my Dad experienced very unfortunate side effects on it.

St Johns Wort is a good idea I haven't tried the natural route, I heard they work as a blood thinner though and can interact with a bunch of medications so I'll check with the health food store maybe.

I do eat well, diet, and excercise (when it's not raining constantly), I still lose weight really slowly, I think I stuffed my metabolism up years ago with eating disorder issues. It was def the AD's, I didn't eat anymore. I found they were almost like a sedative to me (which helped me sleep and the panic attacks) but seemed to sedate my sucky metabolism even more and bloat me and all, I can't remember what I was on before Aropax (it was 7 years ago) but they did the same thing:rolleyes:

Really I just want to be able to go to bed at night and not lie awake thinking and worrying. I got the panic attacks under control years ago, but I am in desperate need of catching up on some sleep, my bub is finally sleeping at night better even through since last week, but I still can't sleep until after midnight because I can't turn my mind off and it's driving me bonkers! I def might try the natural route first though, I really hate Dr's.

I find the SSRI, SNRI anti depressants prescribed - I get very bad side effects that most people don't get. I prefer the old Tricyclic or there's one called Aurorix which is an RIMA (sorry you'll have to google if you don't understand - they are different classes of anti depressants)
