issue with inactive ingredients in ab's..

So DD2 was put on augmentin (sp) duo last week (i actually got the generic version-Clamoxyl duo) shes never had this one before, she usually has amoxil.
she seems to have reacted to this one, had the runs etc..so we stopped on sunday. But our main issue has been shocking behaviour from her :( its been a tough few days, lots of crying/screaming etc... i was concerned shes reacted to inactive ingrediants such as the preservative but i cant find out what one it is as its not listed on the info..grrrrrr!!
So my question is...has anyone else suffered similar issues and or how long can i expect the behaviour issues to last (if thats what is to blame)??

This can be a real issue with some generic medications. You should be able to google the drug name and "consumer medicine information" to get a more complete list or you could go back to the pharmacist and get them to print out the full info from eMIMS.

Is it possible that the behavious is just a reaction to being unwell? It may be that if she's had the runs the ABs have not really being working so she may still be feeling unwell or in pain. I would take her back to the GP for a review, rule that out first.

same here- DS when he is on AB's gets the runs and behaviour is off the rails as well.
often the infection the culprit for behavior but the ab's tip him over!!
keflex is a shocker and amoxil as well and augmenten isnt much better
it hasnt improve going from a suspension to tablets either- i think its the ab's themselves rather than the inactive ingredients that cause the problems. the body is out of balance
plenty of live cultures, lots of freshly squeeze juices and heaps of water as well!!

When my little one was on antibiotics she was completely off the walls. It was the powdered turned liquid in orange tint. I forget the name, but I'd googled the ingredients and there was flavouring and some kind of sweetener.
So I think it was those that set her off?

Not sure because dd has never had ab but when sick she can be unbearable! She had the flu about a month ago and it was hell because she constantly screamed and had meltdowns! She was very sick and was raging against it!

My DS1 had augmentin (sp?) when he was just over 1.5 i think. My memory is failing me a little here but i think it was when he was suffering multiple ear infections and and the ab's weren't working. We were then prescribed augmentin and we got the gastro like symptoms. I think we'd been in contact with someone who'd had gastro so my initial thought was that but i then figured out it was the meds. Never again will i give him or any of my children that stuff. Behaviour wise it was too long ago for me to remember i'm sorry. But i hope you get some answers and your little girl back soon :)

looks like most of the issues we've had behaviour wise may actually have been due to the fact that she has one very badly infected ear :( no wonder shes like she was, on amoxil which shes had countless times so fingers crossed her tummy is ok on them and shes back to her normal self soon.
i feel terrible that shes been in pain for so long :(
