Which spelling do you prefer?

I am expecting a baby boy in about 3 weeks and DH and I have pretty much narrowed down our search to the name Alessio or Alesio. The name is a version of Alexander.

Just wondering which spelling everyone prefers?

We have a 17 month old boy whose name is Mateo (in case that has any impact on your decision).

Feel free to suggest some other name options too. I'm still on the lookout in case I find one that I/we like more than Alesio or Alessio.

Same as the other girls Alessio. I've only ever known it spelt that way.

Same, Alessio. I don't think I'd personally use 2 'o' ending names, but if you are happy go for it! :) Good luck, 2 boys is loads of fun!

For me it comes down to pronounciation - do you say it ah-LESS-ioh or ah-lee-see-oh

If its the Less one I'd use the double ss :)

Sneakysparkle - I would pronounce it A-less-io. I see your point about the 'less'.

catherinemoses - It's so hard to find names that match with Mateo (not similar sounding but that are the same style) that don't end in 'o'. I guess it's like the girl versions of Nina, Lara, Mia. A lot of girls names tend to end in 'a'. I'm open to other names although I don't have much time up my sleeve.

Alessio. Unless you want to continually explain the pronunciation and spelling to people.
I worked with a Melissa who pronounced her name Mel-ee-sa, it was a nightmare for her she ended up changing it (the spelling).

I voted Alessio, it looks and sounds right. Some may interpret the spelling with one 'S' as 'Z' sounding if that makes sense.

Butterfly forever - may I ask whether you have another boy (other than Matteo) and if so what is his name and if not, what names do you have in mind?? I figure since you also like the name Matteo then you may have some great ideas for other boys names. :-)

Alessio looks right to me.

Otherwise Alessandro, Claudio, Antonio, Dante, Carlo, Demarco, Emilio, Gabriele, Luca or Rafaele might work.

I'm going to go against the grain and vote ALESIO. It's more masculine IMO! Gorgeous name :)

I totally agree with Aimz, I think one 's' is more masculine looking. Having said that, I like either. Nice name!

I thought that one 's' was more masculine too but there is also the point regarding the pronounciation (A-less-io).

Mad Scientist - I like Dante too but DH doesn't like it and it is now on one of my friends' list.

We have a mate called Alessio, so i would vote for it that way.
