Why do these things happen?

It has been really annoying not being able to get online over the weekend to let you all know my news and ask a few questions. The clinic rung me on saturday, just as i was feeling better after pick up to tell me the bad news. The eggs didnt fertilise. She said i had ten perfect mature eggs, DH had great :sperm: that will swimming around madly but seems the two dont like each other. Even though the doctor said this may be the case and i should feel good because now i know why we havent even been able to fall pregnant i was still pretty devastated. We have our follow up appointment on thursday to find out what happened. I guess its ICSI for us. Did this happen to anyone else?? Why does it happen?? I thought when your tested for antibodies thats what they meant... i really dont know.

Mez I'm so sorry to hear that your cycle has ended like this. Right now you are fully entitled to feel very unlucky about things, so your doc's comments may be well meaning but they won't make you feel too much better. I don't know if she'll be around to post a reply to you, but this happened to Bumblebea and came as such a shock to her and her DH and it is for you. ICSI worked wonders for her and she has a beautiful DS now.

I hope you get to do another cycle very soon and produce wonderful eggies like last time and have them fertilise with ICSI and get your dream come true. :hug:

Mez with age on your side hun, ICSI is bound to do the trick. Always remember that the first IVF run is basically a 'guinea pig trial' and not often do many couples succeed first go... take care hun and try not to be too upset, as you will succeed... love leis xx

ps yes i know a girl this happened too, and her and DH now have a baby girl, after ICSI second go...

Thanks so much. Its good to hear some success stories in such bizarre cases. I am going to take a break for a month (while the tax money arrives) before embarking on the journey again...doing ICSI. I hope to catch Bumblebea so i can ask her more about it.

Mez I am sorry to hear your cycle has ended like this. I have no advice re the sperm/egg situation but just wanted to say that I did ICSI with Next Gen & am due to give birth in 10 weeks! It will happen honey, I have my fingers & toes crossed for you.

I am so sorry Mez ... when things go wrong it sucks and The Drs don't always have answers that satisfy - big hugs

I just gave birth to IVF twins - on our 2nd cycle after 14 yrs TTC - and only one natural pregnancy (DD Charlotte) which sadly ended at 6months for no reason known.

Plus I am a little older :rolleyes: don't give up yet and I wish you much strength as you continue your journey.

I have just read you posting.
Similar thing happened too me also. Without going into detail. We didn't haven't the fertilisation rate that was expected, very low considering how great our EPU and DH's sample was. Anyway the short and the long - we waited until the shock had passed and then we went in and had a very long chat to our specialist. He was very good and basically gave us a fantastic anatomy lesson and we better understand what "could" have possibly been the issue in our case. It has really empowered us to make future decisions on where we go and what we do.
So I guess that's the only thing I can suggest.....let the shock subside and then go and see your specialists. Go armed with lots of questions and then (like me) write down your answers.

Mez - so sorry to hear about your cycle ending like it has. I feel for you. ICSI will help! and the other option for down the track is assisted hatching - particularly if you have PCOS.

Try to think of this one as a test run and the next time should be easier on your body too. Take care of yourself now and up your calcium intake if you can - stim cycles tend to deplete your calcium reserves. It's probably also a good idea to take a little break before stimming again.
