Constipated breastfed baby?

I've always been told a breastfed baby can't get constipated, but I'm worried my 10 week old DD might be. She normally poos every 3 days, though more recently it's been every second day.

But now, she hasn't done one since Monday. She's seemed to be straining and in pain the last few days, but she barely even farts. Tonight was the worst, she was laughing at DH one second (her first giggles, hooray!) and the next second she was screaming. She rarely cries so this was horrible, it was like when she was vaccinated, full on screaming for 5 minutes.

Nothing we did helped, cycling her legs, holding her with her legs up, rubbing her belly, nothing. She did some really stinky farts but that's it. She's calmed down now but still has ouchy looking grizzles. We're about to give her a bath to see if that helps.

Could she be constipated or is it just bad wind? Is there anything we can do for her?

I'm not sure, but DD was once a multiple poos a day baby, then a few weeks ago she went for 3 days without one. She was the same - grizzly, straining and grunting, unhappy etc. When she finally went it was a monster poo. Since then she only poos every 2 days or so. Was also wondering what it's about.

10 weeks is probably old enough for your bf baby to have slowed down in the poo dept. They absorb so much that there's very little waste. My DD went 17 days when she was a bit older than your baby! As long as bubs is peeing and generally well otherwise, it's nothing to worry about. Just don't leave home without a change of clothes for bub!

Amelia did the same around that age, since then she usually goes a few days without one. The first few times, she did a mega-super-uber poo after a few days (:sick:) and was alright :)

Thanks everyone :) I guess we've just gotta ride it out with her and wait for the big one! She's still getting lots of wet nappies and feeding well so we're ok there.

The only other thing that's changed this week is that she's super dribbly. She's constantly sucking on her fist - she'd have the whole thing in there if she could! And so she's dribbling absolutely everywhere - she's got a bin on for the first time. I wasn't sure if this would be related, I figured it was just because she's found her hands and the sucking helps with wind pain?

Dribbling is normal, DD has just started drooling everywhere too. So much drool!!

The dribbling etc is normal at this age. And from 7 weeks or so they will often start going longer between poos (or not, realy depends on the baby :)) - even a couple of weeks :o

I hope she doesn't wait another week for this poo though!

Well the big one has arrived! Thankfully she was wearing a boosted Cushie Tushie and it was fully contained lol. What a mess though! Very happy it was just before our 20 minute drive to pick up DH and not while we were on the road lol.

She's so happy now, gurgled and chatted for most of the drive and now she's out like a light :D
