I can't remember what the skinny is with antihistamines in the 3rd tri - anyone? I vaguely remember from DS that you shouldn't take them towards the very end of pregnancy, but what about 30weeks?
I will of course check with chemist once I'm at the pharmacy but I'm unwell today and wondering if it's even worth going up to pharmacy. Crossing fingers polaramine or phenergen might be ok....

I'm pretty sure Polaramine and Phenergan are OK during all stages of pregnancy but it's probably best to ask the pharmacist.
Pretty sure Polaramine is a No No 3rd trimester onwards.. Definitely ok for 1st and 2nd though.. Not sure about phenergan..
I double checked with polaramine (I live with a cat and am allergic!) and no, you can't take it in third trimester.
Apparently it's to do with baby's reaction to the antihistamine... :(
Try a nasal "wash" like Fess, to clear out the nostrils perhaps?

It's just coming up for prime hayfever season and it's not so much the mucus/sneezing that bothers me, but the darned itchy itchy eyes!

Check with your doc, there may be something that we don't know about that they keep hidden in the "special" cupboard... ;)
You can take Polaramine. I got some this morning. I spoke with the pharmacist in person and she showed me the info in her book. It's category A. However, you shouldn't take other newer antihistamines such as Claratyne as they haven't yet done enough research etc. (she also said when breastfeeding, it's the opposite...)

But it's a bit of a worry that there's conflicting advice especially as I've taken a tablet this morning after trusting the pharmacist I spoke to... :(
Got ob's appointment today, so will be discussing the hayfever dilemma with him thankfully....will let you know the verdict.
So far it hasn't been too bad, but I'm expecting that it'll give me grief sometime between now and when Penguin is born...

Polaramine is not recommended in 3rd tri. It can cause some very nasty problems should your baby be born early. It also can have some unpleasant side effects to the person taking it. (sleepiness, fatigue dizziness headache dry mouth hives).
yes i got conflicting info as well - as it was my pharmacist that said it was fine too!! i hate wasting money on things!!
My Dr's advice today was taking the odd one here or there, or for a couple of days or so at a time is fine. Not such a good idea if it's for an extended period though, such as taking one every day for weeks on end. Or more.
Though unfortunately that doesn't really help with severe or extended hayfever/allergy problems. Suggested eye-drops, nasal sprays etc can be used as an alternative and keep the tablets for when it gets super bad.
